Experience Austria from its most beautiful side. You cycle from Innsbruck on the Inn Cycle Path, then on the Zillertal Cycle Path and through the Hohe Tauern National Park. Marvel at the magnificent mountain panoramas of the surrounding three thousand meter peaks that accompany you on your journey. Visit the largest waterfalls in Europe and swim in Lake Zell, one of the purest bathing lakes in Austria. Admire the fairy-tale scenery in which lush green meadows alternate with small traditional villages. You cycle along high mountain lakes in which the snow-capped peaks are reflected. A number of cultural highlights await you on your cycle tour along the Zillertal Cycle Path and through the Hohe Tauern. Innsbruck, the small but beautiful Alpine metropolis with its most famous sight Goldenes Dachl and, of course, the Mozart and festival city of Salzburg. Join us on this unique journey, which has everything to offer from Tyrolean customs to sophisticated cities.
Upon your arrival, do explore Innsbruck – the Tyrolean capital. Take a leisurely stroll through the charming old town of this Alpine metropolis. Though compact, the city’s landmark is truly magnificent: the Goldenes Dachl, a roof adorned with 2,657 golden shingles, stands proudly in the heart of the Gothic Old Town. A trip to the renowned Bergisel ski jump is also highly recommended. From its tower, you'll be treated to a unique panoramic view of the city and the Nordkette mountain range, it is a remarkable experience.
Leaving Innsbruck, you’ll be accompanied by the towering Alpine peaks as you cycle along the banks of the Inn, following the cycle path of the same name. Enjoy the scenic landscape as it unfolds around you. Take a break in Wattens and visit the Swarovski Crystal Worlds (entrance not included). This enchanting destination, with its thousands of glittering crystals, is sure to leave you mesmerised. Afterward, continue at a relaxed pace for the final stretch of your first cycling stage. Once you arrive in Strass, at the entrance to the Zillertal, you will have reached your accommodation for the night.
Cycle along the Hohe Tauern mountain range following the Zillertal cycle path, on its course through the valley. On either side, the towering mountain giants rise above 3,000 meters, with the river flowing beside you. As you pedal through charming villages and lush green meadows, take time to appreciate the stunning views and the warmth of the sun. In the early afternoon, you’ll cross the Gerlos Pass. But don’t worry – there’s no need for strenuous pedalling. Instead, relax in the transfer bus that will take you to Krimml. Along the way, you'll pass Europe’s largest waterfalls, a breathtaking sight not to be missed.
Before leaving Krimml, take the opportunity to visit the Krimml Waterfalls, accessible via a scenic high-level trail. This awe-inspiring natural spectacle features thundering torrents of water plunging 380 meters over three dramatic steps. Afterward, hop on your bike for a leisurely ride along the Salzach River, winding through the Hohe Tauern National Park. Immerse yourself in the tranquillity and the stunning beauty of this fairy-tale landscape, where nature’s wonders unfold at every turn.
Start your day with a refreshing dip in Lake Zell before embarking on an exciting stage of your cycling holiday along the Zillertal cycle path and the hohe Tauern mountain range. Today offers plenty of sights to explore. Your route first takes you to the famous Maria Alm pilgrimage church, a beautiful stop along the way. Not long after, you will arrive at Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer. Here, take a well-deserved break with a stunning view of the "sea" – in this case, a striking mountain range. As you continue towards Lofer, you'll encounter even more highlights, including the Seisenbergklamm gorge and the Lamprechtshöhle cave both of them are open to visitors.
On your final day's tour, cycle through the peaceful Saalachtal valley as you make your way towards Germany. Upon crossing the border, you'll arrive in Bad Reichenhall, a town brimming with typical Bavarian charm. Take a relaxing break in a café in the picturesque old town and enjoy the warm hospitality of the locals. After another short stretch on the saddle, you'll reach the Mozart city of Salzburg. This cultural hub is brimming with attractions, but a visit to the iconic Hohensalzburg Fortress is a must. From its towering heights, you'll be treated to a magnificent panoramic view of the city below.
Your eventful journey along the Zillertal cycle path and through the Hohe Tauern region has now come to a close. If you have some time before your departure, take the opportunity to explore Salzburg’s charming old town, including the renowned Getreidegasse and Mozart’s birthplace.
