Your weekend cycle tour along the Moselle starts in Trier. Founded by the Romans over 2000 years ago, Germany's oldest city can look back on a long and eventful history. The Porta Nigra (Black Gate) is one of the city's landmarks that bears witness to this history. It is an ideal starting point for exploring the city. Visit the Imperial Baths, the Roman Bridge, the amphitheater, Trier Cathedral, the Karl Marx House and much more and experience the special flair of this time-honored city.
Today you follow the numerous meanders of the Moselle. A first stopover is worthwhile in Neumagen-Dhron, the oldest German wine-growing community. The town was once used by the Romans as the site of a fort and as a landing stage for ships. The Neumagener Weinschiff (wine ship) in the town center still bears witness to this today. A wooden replica of the ship is moored in the harbour. Your weekend cycle tour along the Moselle continues to Piesport, a wine village that is famous even beyond the region. Visit the Roman wine press before heading to Bernkastel-Kues. You will remember this little half-timbered town with its narrow streets and colorful houses for a long time to come. Before you reach your destination for the day, Zeltingen, it is worth visiting the ruins of Landshut Castle above the town. You'll be enjoying a nice view of the Moselle valley.
The longest stage of your weekend cycle tour on the Moselle lies ahead of you today. But don't worry, thanks to the few climbs, you'll make good progress. After just a few kilometers, you can take a break in Traben-Trarbach. The town with its half-timbered houses and charming Art Nouveau villas boasts the most beautiful riverside promenade on the Moselle. In Zell, you not only reach the narrowest Moselle loop, but also the largest wine-growing village in Germany with over four million vines. The route continues to Cochem, whose impressive Reichsburg Castle will catch your eye from afar. You will also be impressed by the Moseldom in Treis-Karden, your destination for the day.
On to the last stage of your weekend cycle tour on the Moselle! Just a few kilometers after your start, you can take a detour off the Moselle Cycle Route. Eltz Castle, one of the most beautiful and impressive castles in Germany, awaits you there. Back on the Moselle, you cycle relaxed to your destination of Koblenz. The city at Deutsches Eck, where the Moselle flows into the Rhine, can look back on more than 2000 years of eventful history. Part of this history is the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, which can be easily reached by cable car across the Rhine. Departure is in the afternoon. You have several options: departing directly, returning to Trier on your own or booking an extra night in Koblenz. A return transfer can be booked as an option.
