The four friends Corinne, Fabienne, Erika and Monika decided to spend a weekend on Lake Constance by bike. In April 2018, they cycled from Constance to the most beautiful towns on Lake Constance. There was plenty for them to see in Meersburg, Friedrichshafen, Lindau, Bregenz and Arbon. The trip can be extended with additional nights before and after cycling in Constance. Read the report about their sporty trip.

Day 1: Arrival in Constance, Constance - Lindau, approx. 50 km

We set off by car early in the morning on Monday, April 16, 2018, as we had to drive from the beautiful canton of Nidwalden to Constance. We quickly found the bike rental shop and were given a friendly welcome. The staff then adjusted the bikes for us and off we went.

First, we rode to the ferry. It was a short distance, but just right to warm up with the bikes. The weather wasn't great on the first day, but that didn't bother us. From Constance, we took the ferry across to Meersburg. We continued to Friedrichshafen and then on to Lindau. Our first hotel was in Lindau.

Corinne's bike tour tip:

For anyone planning such a bike tour: Take thin gloves with you, a scarf and a fine headband. If the weather is not nice, it can get quite cold on the bike.

Day 2: Lindau - Arbon, approx. 50 km

After breakfast, which was also included, we continued to Bregenz, Rorschach and then to Arbon.
This was another very beautiful route along Lake Constance. The cycle path is almost always very well signposted. Even if you can't read maps well, you can find the right route. We saw lots of beautiful places and the weather was wonderful on the 2nd and 3rd day.

In Arbon we had a lovely hotel, the Hotel Wunderbar. You must visit this hotel! Very friendly staff, good food, nice cozy rooms and a nice garden seating area with 2 rabbits walking around freely. So this hotel is definitely worth a visit! It is very tastefully furnished and you have a beautiful view of Lake Constance.

Day 3: Arbon - Constance, approx. 35 km

We continued on to Romanshorn, Güttingen, Kreuzlingen and Constance again.
We liked the last part the least because we had to cycle on the road and on gravel paths from time to time.

Finding the cycle path rental again at the end wasn't easy either, but we managed it after all. There was a lot of traffic on the road, but the German car drivers didn't seem to have any problems with cyclists, they always gave us the right of way or weren't angry with us if we went the wrong way. Thank you for that!

Conclusion:

I personally liked the first stage the best. There were few cyclists on the road and the area is very beautiful.
We then took a break in a farm store and bought some dried apple rings and cheese.

As for cycling, I can say that I was out with 2 friends and my sister, all 30 years old. We thought it would be easy to cycle for 3 days. But it's not... Of course, it's doable if you do sport, but after a while you start to feel it in your thighs and bottom. And although it's mostly straight ahead, it gets tiring over time. So sometimes we would have loved to throw the wire racks into Lake Constance! No fun, of course not.

In any case, in the evening you know what you've done. And what we also noticed: That cycling makes you hungry. So we ate the calories we burned on the bike in the evening. It's a shame, really, because that wasn't the plan.

Our luggage was transported from hotel to hotel, which always worked really well.

We would certainly recommend Radweg-Reisen GmbH to others!
