Our guests took the Baltic Coast Cycle Route from Lübeck to Stralsund in summer 2019. They write about enjoyable hotel stays and good weather and also give a few tips on the local cycle path situation.
Reading is therefore a must if your own Baltic Sea cycling vacation is already waiting for you!
Show more Show lessWe had a good week of cycling using the cycle route travel documents! The hotels we booked were all recommendable - small hotel units are a treat. We were lucky with the weather - quite cool but dry at the beginning and getting warmer as we went on.
The route map written by Radweg-Reisen did not always match the map of the Baltic Sea Cycle Route. The signposting, as indicated in advance by Radweg-Reisen, is not always clear and sufficient. Some question marks remain and you have to decide for yourself how to continue.
The Baltic Sea Cycle Route is not consistently marked. Sometimes you wish the big destination Stralsund was on the signs more often.
The road conditions correspond to the information provided by the Radweg-Reisen team - often asphalt, very often old GDR concrete slabs (very uneven and bumpy). Often also gravel paths that are easy to cycle on.
In the first section Lübeck - Hohenschönberg, we recommend following the local signposts Boltenhagen, which is the direct route along the shore.
We cycled a whole section of it "by mistake" and didn't understand why the official Baltic Sea Cycle Route leads so far inland.
The hotel locations (except Hohenschönberg) were also worth a visit on site. We would particularly recommend booking an extra day in Lübeck and Wismar and Stralsund to fully enjoy the beauty of the restored, wonderful medieval towns.
We were impressed by the beautiful nature and magnificent views.
We were very pleased to see how wonderful documents of German history have been reconstructed from the often dilapidated old towns over the last 30 years. The money from the "Soli" was put to good use here.
The trip is highly recommended, and the daily sections are also easy to do.
We usually cycled 50 to 60 km, once 70 km (to Ahrenshoop - that was the most beautiful hotel complex for us!). We had pedelecs.
The return transfer from Stralsund to Lübeck was also well organized and pleasant.
The hotel in Lübeck-Isreaelsdorf is highly recommended: Twinhaus am Wald - small but nice!
