Day 1: Arrival in Rothenburg

On Friday, 11.05.2018, we traveled by car from Hamburg to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. We arrived in Rothenburg in the afternoon. The welcome at the hotel was warm. We used the afternoon to visit Rothenburg. Rothenburg is considered "typically German" by many foreigners. You can hear a babble of voices in English, Spanish, Japanese and other languages. The walk along the town wall was great fun. We had a wonderful view and you could walk around the inner core of Rothenburg on the city wall. We had booked half board and were spoiled with a wonderful meal. Afterwards, we had a look at our bikes, which were waiting for us near the hotel. We had opted for e-bikes. And this decision turned out to be the right one. After all, you don't get any younger. And a vacation should be fun and not turn into work.

Day 2: Rothenburg - Ansbach, approx. 50 km

On Saturday, we set off after a good breakfast. The first tour took us from Rothenburg ob der Tauber to Ansbach. We set off in a good mood through meadows and forests with some good climbs. Even here, we were glad that we had opted for our e-bikes. Not that we are comfortable, but when it suddenly gets really uphill after 30 kilometers, you're glad to have a little help to fall back on. So we made our way to Ansbach via Neusitz and Colmberg.
On arrival in Ansbach, we received another friendly welcome. We rested a little in the hotel and then had a look around Ansbach. For dinner, we had Pfälzer Saumagen, a typical specialty of the region.

Day 3: Ansbach - Wettelsheim / Treuchtlingen, approx. 60 km

On Sunday, we continued from Ansbach to Wettelsheim / Treuchtlingen. Thunderstorms and heavy rain were forecast for the afternoon, but first, we set off in great weather. Via Herrieden we went through the beautiful landscape of the Altmühltal towards Gunzenhausen.
Then we had some bad luck. A flat tire on the rear wheel. Sunday afternoon in the middle of the Altmühltal cycle path and about 15 kilometers from our destination. Great, now what? I'm not a great handyman by nature. And certainly not with an e-bike. But we had an emergency number. Well, will that work on a Sunday afternoon in the middle of nowhere? What can I write here. It worked out great. Mrs. Higgelke from Radweg-Reisen immediately took care of our problem and organized transport for us and our bikes to our next hotel. The transport to the workshop the next day was also organized by Mrs. Higgelke after a short consultation and so we could sleep peacefully. At this point, many thanks again for this good emergency assistance, which really deserves its name.

Wettelsheim

Day 4: Wettelsheim - Eichstätt, approx. 50 km

On Monday morning, after a good breakfast, we were picked up by cab and taken to the nearest bike repair shop. There, the bike was expertly repaired and we were able to continue our bike tour to Eichstätt. In light rain, we cycled via Pappenheim, Solnhofen and Dollstein to Eichstätt.

Eichstätt

Day 5: Eichstätt - Beilngries, approx. 45 km

On Tuesday, we set off from Eichstätt to Beilngries. The weather was fine as we cycled via Pfünz and Kinding towards Beilngries. It is a beautiful landscape and we enjoyed our ride through the Altmühltal. We arrived in Beilngries in the sunshine and checked into our hotel room. We then had a look around Beilngries and enjoyed our dinner at the hotel.

Day 6: Beilngries - Kelheim, approx. 50 km

On Wednesday, we set off from Beilngries to Kelheim. We started in the rain, but there were also dry sections during the stage. We went via Dietfurt, Riedenburg and Prunn to Kelheim. We arrived in Kelheim in dry weather. Like all the hotels on this tour, our hotel was right in the center. After a short break, we treated ourselves to a piece of cake in the café and had a look at the landing stage for the Danube boat trip to the Danube Gorge and Weltenburg Abbey planned for the next day.

Day 7: Kelheim - Regensburg, approx. 40 km

Our last stage was from Kelheim to Regensburg. After a good breakfast, we headed to the Danube boat landing stage. Before we got on our bikes today, we first went through the Danube Gorge to Weltenburg Abbey. After returning, we picked up our bikes and continued via Bad Abbach to Regensburg. In Regensburg, we extended our cycle tour for another day. The city made this extra night worthwhile. The return journey was by cab, which was waiting for us in Regensburg on time on the day of departure and took us back to Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
