Our bike tour on the Maare-Moselle cycle route is ideal for getting to know both the Moselle and the Volcanic Eifel in just a few days. You will plan your daily excursions from Mülheim an der Mosel. First, explore the Moselle upstream and cycle to Trier, the oldest city in Germany. Marvel at the old town with its numerous Roman buildings, including the Porta Nigra, the amphitheater, the Imperial Baths and the Roman bridge. Trier Cathedral, the palace garden of the Electoral Palace and the Karl Marx House are also worth a visit. You return to Mülheim by cycle bus to explore the Volcanic Eifel on the Maare-Moselle cycle route the following day. You will be amazed by the region's diverse and beautiful landscapes. From Mülheim, you will also cycle downstream along the Moselle. In Bernkastel-Kues, you will get to know one of the most beautiful half-timbered towns along the river. In Traben-Trarbach, you can enjoy exploring the riverside promenade lined with half-timbered houses and Art Nouveau villas. Speaking of enjoyment: try the local grape varieties from the best vineyards on the Moselle! Both on the Moselle itself and on the Maare-Moselle cycle route, there are virtually no climbs and you will experience a short break that you will remember for a long time to come.
Welcome to our bike tour on the Maare-Moselle cycle route! Your overnight stop for the next few days is Mülheim. Nestled between vineyards, forests and meadows, the winegrowing village is located on the right bank of the Moselle. After your arrival at the hotel, grab your bike and explore the village. The Sonnenlay vineyard to the south of the village is known for its Zeppelin wine. This was often served on Zeppelin voyages in the last century, which is how it got its name – try it!
Today you cycle up the Moselle on the Maare-Moselle cycle route to Trier. On the way, you will get to know Piesport, the largest wine-growing community on the Moselle. Just a stone's throw away you reach Neumagen-Dhron, one of the oldest wine villages in Germany with its wine ship. Following the bends of the Moselle, you reach Trier. The city takes you back to Roman times and presents a piece of its 2000-year-old past at almost every corner. Get to know the city from the water on a boat tour (included). In the evening, take the cycle bus (included) back to Mülheim.
The day starts with a cycle bus (included) to Daun. The town lies in the middle of the volcanic Eifel, which is characterized by volcanic lakes, so-called maars. In the center of Daun, you can learn more about the geological development of the region at the Eifel Volcano Museum. On the Maare-Moselle cycle route, a disused railroad line, you cycle back to the Moselle in a relaxed and almost ascent-free manner. Along the way, you will pass through tunnels, cross over and under bridges and enjoy the scent of the meadows and forests along the way. After your return to Mülheim, a wine tasting awaits you (included).
Before your bike tour on the Maare-Moselle cycle route ends, you can take a detour to Traben-Trarbach. First you reach the half-timbered town of Bernkastel-Kues down the Moselle. Surrounded by steep vineyards, the town impresses with its colorful half-timbered houses and small alleyways. After the next Moselle loop, you cycle through the well-known Kröver Nacktarsch wine-growing region. In Traben-Trarbach, you will get to know a town with one of the most beautiful riverside promenades on the Moselle. After your excursion to Traben-Trarbach, you will return to Mülheim, where you will depart on your own. We are happy to extend your stay on the Moselle with an extra night in Mülheim.
