Your starting point of Mestre, part of the city of Venice, is located on the mainland, not far from the Venice lagoon. Once you have checked into your hotel, you are ready to go. The old town of Venice is built on 118 islands. After taking part in a small grappa tasting not far from St. Mark's Square, you go on a discovery tour of this unique city. Marvel at the magnificent squares, sophisticated palazzi, countless canals and bridges. Take a vaporetto, a type of water bus, or one of the many gondolas to experience the city from the water.

In the morning you will receive a tour information briefing. Your cycle tour from Venice to Florence begins! You cross the Ponte della Libertà and take the ferry (not included) to the Lido di Venezia, a narrow strip of sand that separates the lagoon from the sea. We cycle via Pellestrina to Chioggia and Sottomarina. The island town of Chioggia is often referred to as Little Venice, but is also an important fishing port. Right next door is the popular seaside resort of Sottomarina with its miles of sandy beach.

Your cycle stage today takes you past the Valli di Comacchio lagoon landscape and a stretch of the Adriatic coast to Ravenna. The mosaic art the city is famous for is reflected in numerous centuries-old buildings. Visit the church of San Vitale. Rather unadorned on the outside, it presents itself on the inside with magnificent mosaics from the 6th century. The Basilica Sant'Apollinare in Classe, just outside the city center, is also worth a visit. Ravenna's old town is closed to cars, ideal for discovering the city's other sights in a relaxed manner.
