Griaß God! That was hello in Bavarian! Welcome to your cycling holiday on Lake Chiemsee. Did you know that large expanses of Upper Bavaria are covered by water? And that Lake Chiemsee is Germany‘s third biggest lake? Chiemgau is best explored by bike! The well-signposted cycle paths turn cycling into pure enjoyment. Along the route there are many places to stop and taste a Bavarian pint of beer and enjoy the glittering, snow-peaked Alpine panorama. On your cycling holiday at Lake Chiemsee, discover the lovely little villages in the hinterland, away from the tourists – but also the region‘s highlights: islands with impressive monasteries and Ludwig II‘s influence on the area make Upper Bavaria an unforgettable experience! As this cycling holiday is one of our star tours, the starting point for all of these adventures is always the same. So there won‘t be any annoying packing of suitcases to contend with.

Cycling holiday on Lake Chiemsee

Day 1: Individual arrival in Pelham am See

On arrival at the hotel, an information meeting awaits you. If you have booked rental bikes, they will be waiting for you at the hotel. Pelham is in a rural location and not directly on Lake Chiemsee. Enjoy the peace and quiet in Pelham or take a short trip to the largest town on Lake Chiemsee, Prien. Prien is a historic market town, which today boasts a beautiful lakeside promenade and restaurants, among other things.

Day 2: Excursion to the Eggstätter Seenplatten, approx. 40 / 60 km

The first cycle tour on your cycling holiday at Lake Chiemsee takes you through the oldest nature reserve in Bavaria. The Eggstätter Seenplatte is made up of a total of 17 lakes. The relaxed tour presents you with the beauty of nature in its entirety! You cycle past romantic, flower-filled farms and reach the tranquil village of Höslwang. Enjoy the wonderful view of the Alpine panorama. Automobile enthusiasts will get their money's worth in Amerang at the Museum of German Automobile History. The detour to Amerang extends the route by around 20 km.

Day 3: Excursion around the Chiemsee, approx. 65 km

Today's route takes you around the Bavarian Sea. You set off from Pelham in the direction of Lake Chiemsee. Cycle through forests and small, cozy villages with a direct view of the glistening lake through the beautiful landscape of Upper Bavaria. On the cycle path, you pass vantage points that offer unforgettable views of the Chiemsee islands and the Alpine panorama. It's worth stopping there! To make sure you don't miss out on swimming fun during your cycling holiday on Lake Chiemsee, you can jump into the sea at one of the numerous outdoor pools. For culture lovers, a visit to the Roman Museum in Seebruck is a must. The museum tells you about the Celtic-Roman past of the Chiemgau region.

Day 4: Excursion to the Men's and Women's Islands, approx. 20 km + boat trip

You cycle a short distance to the boat landing stage in Prien. From there, the boat takes you to Herreninsel, the largest island on Lake Chiemsee, where the fairytale king Ludwig II once had his replica of Versailles Palace built. Around five kilograms of gold leaf were used throughout the castle. The bedroom is one of the most precious rooms of the 19th century. Once you have visited the Herreninsel, the Fraueninsel should of course not be missed: The island and fishing village as well as the ancient monastery create a wonderful sense of tranquillity. Immerse yourself in a bygone era. Don't miss out on the regional cuisine, on which great importance is placed!

Day 5: Excursion to Lake Simsee and Rosenheim, approx. 40 km + train ride

The Simsee impresses with its partly untouched reed and shore zones. Cycle along a nature and landscape conservation area towards the Inn, the well-known tributary of the Danube, and follow it to Rosenheim. The typically Bavarian town attracts attention from afar with its onion domes. Southern flair and alpine charm characterize the city. Get off your bike for a change and explore the beautiful old town of Rosenheim on foot. Even though Rosenheim is not on the lake, a visit is a must during your cycling holiday on Lake Chiemsee. The train (not included) takes you back to Pelham.

Day 6: Excursion to Seeon Monastery, approx. 45 km

You cycle through green countryside and fairytale forests to Seeon. The monastery of the same name awaits you in Seeon. Situated on an island, the former imperial monastery is now in the middle of a nature reserve. The monastery was built in 994! It changed hands several times: high nobility and ducal families used it as accommodation and it was even used as a spa. A walk across the bridge that connects the island to the mainland will take you back in time. Enjoy the peaceful landscape with a glass of local wine. On the way back, you will soon catch a glimpse of the dark blue waters of Lake Chiemsee. Have you discovered the small wine-growing areas on the slopes? Cycle back to your hotel via traditional Bavarian villages.
