After you arrive in Pasuuau stroll through the tranquil alleys of the baroque old town of the three-river city. Passau owes its nickname to the confluence of the Danube, the Inn and Ilz river at the Three River's Corner wheree the green Inn and the black Ilz flow into the blue Danube. You start your bike tour from Passau to Budapest at the northern banks of the Danube. Just past Obernzell you cross the German-Austrian border. In Engelhartszell you can visit the only Trappist monastery in Austria. The collegiate church built in the late Baroque period is quite spectacular. You cycle on to the Schlögener Schlinge. where the Danube winds in a tight loop around a huge granite hill. The river seems to flow backwards at it inverts its path.

You cycle through the legendary landscape of the wild Strudengau. You are at narrow point of the Danube, once feared by Danube skippers due to its whirls. Soon you will reach the Wachau. The centuries-old winemaking culture is quite visible and should be tasted at one of the many wine terraces. The cultural highlight of the stage is the magnificent Benedictine Abbey in Melk. The world-famous monastery is an icon of baroque architecture.
The bike tour from Passau to Budapest continues through the picturesque landscape of the Wachau. Past the former monastery in Dürnstein. Its blue and white church tower is striking. It is considered a landmark of the region. At Krems you leave the Wachau region behind. The expansive Tullner Feld opens up in front of you. On the Danube Cycle Path you leave Vienna along the Old Danube. Then you cycle on through the untouched floodplain forests of the Danube Floodplain National Park. In addition to fantastic nature, there are always cultural and historical sights to discover along the route. In Orth, one of the largest Renaissance castles in Austria awaits you. Here a national park center provides more insights into the protected nature reserve. In Eckartsau you can visit a former imperial hunting lodge. At the health resort of Bad Deutsch-Altenburg you'll encounter one of the strongest iodine-sulfur springs in Europe. The Romans already made good use of it.
You start the stage with an excursion to the nearby Roman city of Carnuntum. In a unique way, a Roman city quarter was reconstructed here and made tangible for the visitor. Then the route leads via Hainburg into Slovakia. Shortly after the Austrian-Slovakian border you will reach Bratislava. The landmark of the Slovakian capital is the castle of the same name. From the 4-towered white castle you have a magnificent panoramic view. Explore the beautiful old town of Bratislava with its baroque palaces and magnificent squares on foot or by bike.
The time you spend on your bike tour from Passau to Budapest in Slovakia is quit short. After just a few kilometers you cross the border into Hungary at Rajká. You cycle past small villages across the so-called small Schüttinsel, to the pretty town of Mosonmagyaróvár. A huge floodplain as well as numerous side arms of the Danube characterize the route. From Mosonmagyaróvár you can comfortably cover the last part of the stage to Győr by train. Győr is one of the best preserved Renaissance and Baroque towns in Hungary. Take the time for a city tour.
Through the Hungarian town of Böny you cycle to the Slovak-Hungarian twin town of Komárom. The route takes you past the Hungarian national stud farm Bálbona. Here the world-famous Arabian horses are bred. A visit to the stud farm with its extensive parks is worthwhile not only for horse enthusiasts. Your destination for the day, Komárom, was once a mighty fortress. Visit the remains of the star-shaped defense system. In the evening relax in the local thermal baths (not included).
Always close to the river, the Danube Bike Path leads you through the flat Danube valley. You cycle through small villages and past green vineyards. If you like it a bit more sporty, choose the route variant via the city of Tata, which contains some climbs. History buffs will get their money's worth at the Kelemantia Roman fort. The highlight of the day is Esztergom with its magnificent basilica. From Esztergom you continue by boat or train to Visegrád located at the Danube Bend.
From the former royal seat of Visegrád you cycle through the dreamlike landscape of the Danube bend. Take a break at the artist town of Szentendre.
