On your Drava cycling holiday you follow the river, which flows from Italy through Austria and Slovenia and finally flows into the Danube in Croatia. Discover Austria‘s sunny south, the province of Carinthia, comfortably on two wheels. Mostly directly along the banks, you cycle on mostly flat paths through the beautiful landscape. To the right and left rise the mountain peaks of the Dolomites and Karawanken. Again and again you will pass proud castles and palaces as well as dreamy little villages. Like little blue dots, more than 200 lakes dot the landscape, which is interspersed with meadows and forests. So you can always take a swim break on your Drava cycling holiday. In the charming small towns of Spittal and Villach you can enjoy the southern flair and warm hospitality. You will also be spoiled in culinary terms on your Drava cycling holiday: Carinthia‘s unique cuisine with its Italian, Austrian and Slovenian influences will delight you.

You bike through such charming places as Pirkach, or Oberdrauburg with its castle, this small community's landmark.

Your Drava cycling holiday is idyllic today, with the route leading you through meadows, forests and lovely riverside marshes. You'll love your destination: Villach is a pretty little town with an Italian flair. No matter whether you walk alongside the river or down the winding streets of the historic quarter – just make sure you explore! Enjoy some Carinthian Kasnudeln (cheese pasta), a speciality that dates back to the 15th century.

Day 6: Villach - St. Jakob im Rosental, approx. 30 - 45 km

First you pedal through the lovely Rosental valley with views of the wonderful Karavanke mountain landscape. As this section is comparably short, it can be extended if you like in two different directions. You either visit the trendy town of Velden am Wörthersee with chic boutiques and pleasant streetside cafes. Or you go on a trip to Lake Faak. This green and turquoise glittering lake is perfect for a refreshing dip.
