Discover the fascinating world of the Mosel wines on this very special bike tour. These special wines have been pressed here for over 2000 years. Impressive slopes and terraces shape the countryside here as you cycle through idyllic little villages and towns, rich in tradition. In many places here, wine is grown according to the old traditions. Become acquainted with all these wine varieties on your wine tour along the Moselle and get to taste them in the evenings on the winemakers‘ farms. You‘ll be inspired by the Roman town of Treves, the charming Mosel towns of Beilstein and Cochem as well as the German Corner in Coblenz.
Arrive early in the picturesque Ruwer Valley, located at the gates of Trier, to allow ample time to explore the ancient Roman city. With a history spanning over 2,000 years, the city’s past is evident at every turn. Key landmarks include the iconic Porta Nigra, the Romanesque Dreikönigenhaus, and the elegant Rococo palace of the electors, each offering a glimpse into the city's rich heritage. In the evening, you'll unwind amidst the tranquil vineyards, where your pre-arranged rental bikes will be ready for your use.
You follow the Ruwer valley upstream towards the Moselle. In the small village of Mehring, with its famous ruins of the Villa Rustica, it's worth taking a stroll through the narrow streets. Take a look at one or the other of the winegrowers' farms before cycling to the educational wine trail near Trittenheim. In the afternoon, you will reach the oldest wine village in Germany Neumagen-Dhron, where your first wine tasting will take place.
After a few kilometers, you'll reach the charming wine village of Piesport, renowned for its exceptional Piesporter Goldtröpfchen. Take time to savor the region's famed wines and experience its unique character. Continue your journey to Bernkastel-Kues, where you can stroll through the medieval marketplace, admire the picturesque gabled half-timbered houses, and explore the Moselle Wine Museum. Following the scenic Moselle River, make your way to Zeltingen, home to the prestigious Zeltinger Himmelreich vineyard, where you can enjoy both the stunning views and the area's celebrated wines.
Today the Wine tour along the Moselle leads you through the scenic wine-growing region of Zeller Schwarze Katz as you make your way to Bullay. Here, a unique double-decker bridge spans the Moselle, linking the town with Alf on the opposite bank. Continue to the enchanting town of Beilstein, often referred to as the "Sleeping Beauty of the Moselle," before heading to Cochem to visit the historic Reichsburg Castle. Along the way, savor the fruity notes of Riesling wine, produced from the renowned slate-covered steep slopes of the region. Finish your day by cycling towards your charming winery in Treis-Karden, where you can relax and enjoy the local offerings.
Today, take a detour to the stunning medieval Eltz Castle, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful castles in Germany. After exploring this architectural gem, return to the Moselle Cycle Path and continue to the historic village of Kobern-Gondorf. Here, we recommend a visit to a terraced winery, where the steep, rocky slopes are cultivated by hand, offering a true taste of the region’s wine-growing tradition. As you cycle through Winningen, you'll eventually reach the iconic Deutsches Eck, where the Moselle meets the mighty Rhine River.
