Take a detour to Uckange where the Parc du Haut-Fourneau U4, offers fascinating insights into the once-thriving iron and steel industry which shaped the region. Your journey continues to Perl, the only wine-growing community in Saarland county. A visit to the reconstructed Villa Borg will transport you back in time to Roman antiquity, allowing you to experience their daily life through the well-preserved archaeological site.
The Moselle forms the border between Germany and Luxembourg as far as Wasserbillig. Following the Moselle Cycle Path, you’ll cycle along the river, lined with picturesque vineyards, until you reach the Roman city of Trier via Konz. Take your time to explore Germany’s oldest city, as it has much to offer. The iconic Porta Nigra is a must-see, but you can also visit the Imperial Baths or the Karl Marx House to gain insight into the city's rich history.
Continuing your journey, you’ll arrive in the wine village of Trittenheim. Here, unwind and savour a glass of Riesling from the renowned Apotheke vineyard, the perfect way to end your day.
Today, your bike tour from Metz to Koblenz takes you through some of the most famous wine villages along the Moselle. First, you’ll reach Neumagen-Dhron, Germany’s oldest wine-growing community. In the heart of the village, you'll find the Neumagen Wine Ship, a floating replica of a Roman vessel, anchored on the banks of the Moselle.
Just a short ride away is Piesport, where you can visit a reconstructed Roman winepress, offering a glimpse into ancient winemaking techniques. Continuing on, you’ll arrive in the charming half-timbered town of Bernkastel-Kues. Take time to wander through its cobbled streets, soaking in the historical atmosphere before heading to Zell via Traben-Trarbach. With over four million vines, Zell is one of the largest wine-growing towns in Germany, making it the perfect place to immerse yourself in the region's rich vinous heritage.
Leaving Zell behind, you’ll follow the winding meanders of the Moselle towards Cochem. Even from a distance, the majestic Cochem Imperial Castle, over 1,000 years old, will catch your eye. Continuing your journey, you’ll pass through Treis-Karden, where the striking Moseldom stands as another highlight on your route from Metz to Koblenz.
A short detour from the river takes you to Eltz Castle, a medieval masterpiece with incomparable architecture, considered one of the most beautiful castles in Germany.
Finally, upon reaching your destination in Koblenz, be sure to visit the iconic Deutsches Eck (German Corner), where the Moselle meets the Rhine, and explore the impressive Ehrenbreitenstein Fortress, which offers panoramic views of the city and the surrounding rivers.
