You will complete the first section of today's stage of your Caminho Português bike tour with a transfer (included), taking you to Esposende. Let’s get started! Your first stop is in Viana do Castelo, where you can visit the Praça da República, one of the most beautiful medieval squares in Portugal. From the pilgrimage church on Monte Santa Luzia, you'll be treated to a stunning view of the city and the River Lima. Continuing along the Atlantic coast, you'll reach Caminha, a charming town surrounded by impressive city walls. Inside, you’ll find narrow, picturesque alleyways waiting to be explored.
You’ll be spoilt for choice right at the start of your cycling day today. You can either cross the Rio Minho by ferry (not included) or cycle over the Ponte da Amizade bridge in Vila Nova de Cerveira to reach the opposite bank of the river. In either case, you’ll cross into Spain almost without noticing. From there, continue cycling along the stunning Atlantic coast to your destination for the day: the port city of Baiona. After a leisurely stroll through the town, indulge in freshly caught seafood, sit back with a glass of wine, and enjoy the breathtaking view of the sea as the sun sets.
Today's cycling day on your Caminho Português takes you along the stunning Atlantic coast of Galicia. Enjoy panoramic views of the sea and the refreshing sea breeze as you ride. For oyster enthusiasts, the fishing village of Arcade is a perfect stop, offering fresh, locally harvested oysters. Your destination for the day is Pontevedra, a town rich in history with a deep seafaring and trading tradition. Explore its charming streets, filled with picturesque squares, historic churches, and fascinating museums – all well worth a visit!
Enjoy a relaxed cycle towards the Atlantic, passing through the picturesque vineyards of the Rías Baixas. This renowned wine region is famous for Albariño, one of Portugal’s most celebrated white wine varieties. As you arrive in Cambados, you'll find that both wine-growing and fishing are central to the town's character. Take a leisurely stroll through the Praza de Fefiñans, explore the charming fishing district of San Tomé, and immerse yourself in the local culture. End the day with a guided tour of a traditional winery, where you’ll not only learn about the winemaking process but also enjoy a delightful wine tasting (included), sampling the wines of Galicia.
Today's stage of your Caminho Português takes you to the vast estuary of the Ría de Arousa, a beautiful bay. Cross a bridge to reach the small island of A Illa de Arousa, where you can unwind on miles of sandy beaches or take a refreshing dip in the sea. From the Con do Forno viewpoint, enjoy stunning panoramic views of the island. After returning to the mainland, cycle to the charming fishing village of Carril. Famous for its mussel farms that stretch out on wooden platforms along the coast, Carril offers the perfect opportunity to sample these local delicacies.
Today, you cycle inland through lush forests and wetlands, eventually reaching Padrón. According to legend, it was here that the ship carrying the body of the apostle James, later buried in Santiago de Compostela, first docked. Over the centuries, Santiago de Compostela has become one of the world’s most significant pilgrimage destinations. The Cathedral, built in the 11th century as the burial church of St. James, is a remarkable sight. On the final evening of your Caminho Português, indulge in traditional Spanish empanadas and a glass of Galician wine – Perfecto!
After breakfast, your bike tour on the Caminho Português concludes. A transfer (included) will take you from Santiago de Compostela to Porto airport, where you can begin your journey home, filled with memories of your unforgettable cycling adventure.
