Our cycle tour around Ærø is ideal for leaving everyday life behind, enjoying the view of the vast sea undisturbed and getting to know one of Denmark‘s most beautiful regions without any stress.
The cozy harbour town of Fåborg is the starting point for your bike tour around Ærø. After arriving at the hotel, grab your bike and explore the historic town. The Vesterport, one of the few remaining city gates in Denmark, is still part of its medieval fortifications. The city's landmark is the Klokketårnet. Climb the bell tower and enjoy the magnificent view over Fåborg and the sea. The Ymerbrønd fountain is a real eye-catcher. The bronze sculpture depicts the story of according to Norse mythology.
Today you're off to the Danish Southern Sea ! Your trip takes you from Fåborg to the islands of Lyø and Avernakø. At First, take the ferry (not included) to Lyø. Cycle through the main town of Lyø By, characterized by ponds and half-timbered houses, and the Klokkesten. Strike the bell stone, which dates back to the Neolithic Age. Just a ferry trip (not included) away is Avernakø. The two-part island is in no way inferior to the charm and idyll of Lyø. Both islands are characterized by their beautiful nature and unique tranquility – dream and escape reality. If you would rather choose a different program for today – do as you like.
The bike trip begins with a ferry (included) to the picturesque island of Ærø. You'll see the Skjoldnæs lighthouse from afar. Discover Søbygaard hunting lodge, the cliffs of Voderup Klint and the seafaring town of Marstal on a tour around the island. Before boarding the ferry to Svendborg in its fairytale-like harbor town of Ærøskøbing, don't miss out on trying the island's specialty: Løvtens Paa'kar – fluffy pancakes. In Svendborg, take a long walk through the old town to the harbor with its pretty historic wooden ships.
From Svendborg, you will once again head to the Danish South Sea. The ferry (included) takes you to the island of Skarø. The island offers a unique nature experience.
Experience the islands unique atmosphere by bike or on foot. The island is almost two square kilometers in size and boats beach meadows, dunes and sandy reefs. Your next destination is Drejø. The island is home to rare white fallow deer. With a bit of luck, you can spot one of the shy animals. Enjoy the mild sea breeze blowing around your nose on the way back to Svendborg.
On today's excursion on your cycle tour around Ærø, you cycle along the coast to Lundeborg. Along the way, you can take short breaks on the beaches of Skårupøre and Elsehoved – don't forget your swimsuit! Lundeborg's landmark is the packing house at the idyllic harbor. Cycle back to Svendborg away from the coast. Stay in the saddle, as you can quickly reach the island of Tåsinge via the Svendborgsund Bridge. The Valdemars Slot right by the sea is particularly worth seeing. The extensive park with its tall old trees is perfect for a picnic.
The last stage of your bike tour around Ærø takes you back to Fåborg along the Svendborg strait. You cycle through sometimes hilly terrain away from the coast. Extend today's stage with an excursion to the Finnish Alps. The affectionately named hills of the Svanninge Bakker north of Fåborg are only at most 128 meters high. They offer pure nature and magnificent views of the surrounding area and the archipelago. If you prefer something a bit more even visit the village of Horne to the west. The Horne Kirke is one of the most unusual places of worship in Denmark.
