On this cycle tour, you cycle around Lake Constance in six days, getting to know three countries and different landscapes against the backdrop of the Swiss mountains. Highlights include the medieval towns of Constance, Stein am Rhein, Meersburg and Lindau as well as the festival city of Bregenz. Variety and a good mix of activity and relaxation are on offer. The daily stages on this trip are up to 60 km long, so this tour is aimed at those who want to travel at a slightly faster pace but have no sporting ambitions.
You will begin your cycle trip in Constance, the largest town on the Lake of Constance, which is still very medieval in character to this day. In 1414 it hosted the only Church Council to ever be held north of the Alps. A small museum plays tribute to the Czech Reformer Jan Hus, who was burnt at the stake here. The Swiss town of Kreuzlingen is located directly next to Constance. The harbour and lakeside area with its beautiful park are worth a visit here.
Today´s tour will lead you from Constance through picturesque Swiss fishing villages. On the left bank of the Rhine you will reach Stein am Rhein with its medieval houses. Back on German territory you will cycle along the Höri peninsula through Gaienhofen and Hemmenhofen, where Hermann Hesse and Otto Dix once lived. Your destination is the old imperial town of Radolfzell which is now a health resort.
Today you will cross over the Bodanrück hills and reach the Überlingen lake at Bodman. You cycle along the lakeshore towards Überlingen with its gothic cathedral. You pass the baroque pilgrimage church of Birnau and the reconstructed lake dwellings in Uhldingen on your way to Meersburg with its ancient Merovingian castle. The tour then continues on through vineyards to the Zeppelin town of Friedrichshafen, where the airship museum and the harbour are worth a visit.
Today you continue through orchards and pretty villages towards the island town of Lindau, with a view of the Alps along the entire journey. You should definitely take a detour across the bridge. At the harbor, arriving ships are greeted by the 33 meter high lighthouse and a six meter high lion. Climb the 139 steps to the top of the lighthouse and enjoy the panoramic view. Cycling along a beautiful lakeside path you will reach the town of Bregenz, with its famous lakeside theatre stage, in no time. You then continue on cycling through the nature preservation area in the Rhine Delta in the direction of the Swiss border.
The last day of the Lake Constance Cycle Tour leads you through the Swiss Canton of Thurgau which due to its many orchards and its comparatively isolated situation is also lovingly known as Cider India. You then cycle along the lake shore through well kept small villages and towns back to the starting point of your cycling tour.
