Our classic Lake Constance bike tour is not only one of our most popular tours, but the perfect way to get to know the most beautiful corners around Lake Constance in a very relaxed way with and on the bike. You start in Constance. The council city impresses with a picturesque old town, a lively harbor and an eventful history. Our Lake Constance bike tour takes you along the High Rhine to medieval Stein am Rhein, the Höri peninsula and the garden city of Überlingen. Along the Obersee, the largest part of Lake Constance, you will cycle buoyantly past Meersburg Castle, through sun-drenched wine valleys to the Zeppelin city of Friedrichshafen. Between Lindau and the festival city of Bregenz, you cross the German-Austrian border. After a few kilometers you are already in Switzerland and cycle along the southern shore of the lake through pretty little villages back to Constance. Our Lake Constance bike tour is ideal for bike tour beginners, pleasure cyclists and families.

We offer the trip in three categories. You can choose between hotels in category K (4* level), category A (3* / 4* level) and category B (2* / 3*
level).

You would like to book the classic Lake Constance cycle tour in the 2024 season?

Day 1: Individual journey to Constance

Your Lake Constance bike tour begins traditionally in Constance, the largest city on Lake Constance. After arriving at the hotel, take a long stroll through the Niederburg district. Small alleyways, crooked half-timbered houses and cozy wine taverns characterize the oldest part of the city. Climb the tower of Constance priory and enjoy the panoramic view over the city, the lake and Switzerland. At the harbour the Imperia has been turning since 1993. The nine-metre-high figure is a satirical reminder of the time of the Council of Constance in the 15th century.

Day 2: From Constance along the lower lake

Constance - Gailingen / Stein am Rhein / Wangen, approx. 30 - 50 km (Cat A),
Constance - Gailingen / Stein am Rhein, approx. 30 - 40 km (Cat B),
Constance - Wangen / Hemmenhofen, approx. 35 km (Cat K)

The first stage of your Lake Constance bike tour takes you along the Swiss shore of the lower lake and the upper Rhine up to Stein am Rhein. The town has one of the most beautiful medieval town centers on Lake Constance and impresses with its brightly painted facades. A few kilometers downstream you will arrive in Gailingen, one of the southernmost towns in Germany. Now on the German side of the Rhine, you continue to cycle to the Höri peninsula. It is known for its artistic scene. The painter Otto Dix once lived in Hemmenhofen. His house has been converted into a museum and can be visited.

Day 3: From Untersee to Überlinger See

Gailingen - Überlingen, approx. 45 / 60 km (Cat A),
Ludwigshafen / Überlingen, approx. 40 - 60 km (Cat B),
Wangen - Überlingen, approx. 45 km (Cat K)

Today you will cycle around the Höri peninsula and reach the spa town of Radolfzell. Visit Radolfzell Minster, which has the highest church tower on Lake Constance. You  will pass Bodman-Ludwigshafen and Sipplingen via the Bodanrück (watch out for the hills!). Following the bike path along the shores of Lake Überlingen, you reach the town of Überlingen. The stately St. Nikolaus Minster can be seen from afar. Stroll along the five-kilometre-long lakeside promenade and enjoy the view of the lake and its maritime flair.

Day 4: From Lake Überlingen to the upper lake

Überlingen - Lindau / Kressbronn, approx. 60 / 45 km (Cat A),
Ludwigshafen - Kressbronn / Nonnenhorn, approx. 45 - 60 km (Cat B),
Überlingen - Lindau, approx. 60 km (Cat K)

Your Lake Constance cycle tour takes you along the Upper Lake today. First make a stop at the pilgrimage church of Birnau. Surrounded by vineyards, the forecourt of the splendidly decorated baroque church offers a wonderful view over the lake. Visit the pile-dwelling museum in Unteruhldingen, the oldest inhabited castle in Germany in Meersburg and be impressed by the largest collection on the history of aviation in Friedrichshafen. The old town of Lindau is located on an island. Enjoy the view of the Alps from the harbour - with the city's landmarks in the foreground: the Bavarian Lion and the 33-metre-high lighthouse.

Day 5: Around the Bay of Bregenz

Lindau - Arbon, approx. 50 km (Cat A),
Kressbronn - Höchst / Rorschach, approx. 30 - 55 km (Cat B),
Lindau - Horn, approx. 45 km (Cat K)

Not far from Lindau, you pass the border to Austria almost unnoticed. Take a break in Bregenz and take the cable car up to the Pfänder, the local mountain of the festival city. Here you have a fantastic view over Lake Constance and more than 200 Alpine peaks. Just a stone's throw from Bregenz, you cross the Bregenzer Ach and the Alpenrhein at Hard. Welcome to Switzerland! Visit the historic Badehütte in Rorschach and enjoy the view of the lake from the lakeside promenade. Arbon's landmark is its castle. The museum housed in it looks back on the more than 5000-years of local history.

Day 6: Back to Constance

Arbon - Constance, approx. 30 km (Cat A),
Höchst - Constance, approx. 40 / 50 km (Cat B),
Horn - Constance, approx. 30-45 km (Cat K)

The last stage of your bike tour takes you back to Constance on a flat and easy path. In Constance, you can visit the Rosgarten Museum (included), which looks back on the art and cultural history of the city. If you would like to spend some more time on your bike, we recommend a visit to the flower island of Mainau or a detour to the island of Reichenau, famous for its three Romanesque churches.
