Cycle along the Kyll Cycle Route to discover the most beautiful corners of the Southern Eifel. Experience the enchanting river landscapes of the Moselle, Kyll, Prüm and Sûre surrounded by castles, palaces and rock formations in just one week. Our cycle tour on the Kyll Cycle Route begins in Trier. Founded by the Romans, the city takes you on a journey into its 2000-year history, from which numerous ancient and modern buildings have emerged. Let yourself be surprised! Through the picturesque Kyll valley, you reach Bitburg, which is not only famous for its brewery. The route continues along the Kyll to Gerolstein, which is surrounded by dolomite cliffs. You reach Prüm via the Eifel-Ardennes cycle path – a true eye-catcher with its magnificent princely abbey! Cycle along the Prüm river to the Irrel Waterfalls. In Wasserbillig you meet the Moselle again, which leads you back to the heart of Trier. The cycle tour on the Kyll Cycle Route is ideal for anyone who wants to explore the beautiful hilly forest and meadow landscape of the Southern Eifel by bike. As you can expect some inclines along the way, we recommend this tour to cyclists with a good basic level of fitness.

Day 1: Individual arrival in Trier

Your tour on the Kyll Cycle Route begins in Trier on the Moselle. Trier was founded more than 2000 years ago. The oldest city in Germany looks back on an eventful history, which was mainly shaped by the Romans. The Porta Nigra stands out in particular. It is the landmark of Trier and the ideal starting point to get to know the city on a walk. Visit the Roman Bridge, Trier Cathedral, the Imperial Baths and the Karl Marx House. A glass of Riesling from the vineyards around Trier will get you in the mood for the cycling days ahead. Cheers!

Day 2: Trier – Bitburg, approx. 55 km

You leave Trier along the Moselle. From Ehrang, you are on the Kyll Cycle Route. It largely runs parallel to the Kyll, the longest river in the Eifel region. Beautiful panoramas and impressive natural landscapes await you along the way. A little further from the Kyll, you reach your destination for the day, Bitburg. The town is known for its traditional brewery. The Romans already developed the town into a roadside fort. Remains of the old town wall are still a reminder of this in the historic old town.

Day 3: Bitburg – Gerolstein, approx. 40 km

You will also spend today's stage on the Kyll Cycle Route, which takes you via Kyllburg with its imposing collegiate church to Mürlenbach. Bertradaburg Castle can be seen from afar. Historians assume that Charlemagne was born in the castle. The route continues to your stage destination of Gerolstein. Surrounded by dolomite cliffs, the town in the Volcanic Eifel is famous for its mineral springs. Leave your bike and take a short hike to the Buchenloch Cave, which served as a dwelling cave for humans and animals many thousands of years ago.

Day 4: Gerolstein – Prüm, approx. 45 km

From Gerolstein, you are on the Eifel-Ardennes cycle path. For the most part, you follow the course of an old railroad line, which is characterized by hilly terrain with only slight inclines. Your destination for the day, the health resort of Prüm, lies in the middle of the Prüm limestone basin and is known for its magnificent St. Salvator's Basilica. As part of Prüm Abbey, it is the town's landmark. The church has a Baroque exterior and a Gothic interior.

Day 5: Prüm – Echternach, approx. 75 km

Today you cycle along the Kyll Cycle Route, mostly along the Prüm river. As far as Waxweiler, you follow the former route of the Westeifelbahn railway. A little away from the Prüm, you cycle to Biersdorf, accompanied by a few climbs. Leave your bike and take a walk along the five-kilometre lakeside promenade. Back on your bike, you cycle to Echternach. The rapids of the Prüm, the Irrel Waterfalls, are another highlight of this stage. You have a wonderful view of this natural phenomenon from a wooden bridge.

Day 6: Echternach – Trier, approx. 40 km

Follow the gentle meanders of the Sûre river on the Sûre Valley Cycle Path, which takes you to Wasserbillig. Here the Sûre flows into the Moselle. On the Moselle Cycle Route, the last stage of your cycle tour on the Kyll Cycle Route takes you first to Igel. In the town center, marvel at the richly decorated Roman Igeler Säule, which is one of the largest gravestones north of the Alps. In your destination of Trier, it is worth taking a walk along the wine culture trail above the amphitheater. It shows you the cultivation and history of wine at every turn.
