Family Cycling at Lake Constance

You start your tour in Constance, Lake Constance’s biggest town. 600 years ago this was where the Council of Constance took place, the only council to elect a pope that was held north of the Alps. The Rhine leaves Lake Constance here: 0 kilometres on its way to the North Sea. Only a few minutes by foot from the medieval town centre is the Swiss town of Kreuzlingen with its lively harbour.

Your first cycle stage takes you past Mainau (not included). Enjoy wonderful hours on the island, which is characterised by a sea of flowers and exotic plants. Whether butterfly house or adventure playground – there is something exciting for everyone to see and experience here. You then cycle to Wallhausen. The boat takes you to Überlingen. Not far from the lakeshore, you cycle to the pile dwellings in Unteruhldingen, which take you on a 10,000-year journey through time. In Meersburg, you take the ferry to Constance.

Take the ferry from Constance to Meersburg. Let the sea breeze blow through your hair and enjoy the view of the lake and Meersburg Castle, which can be seen from afar, on the way. Enjoy the medieval flair during a visit before making your way to Friedrichshafen. Try to count the colourful locks on the Mole Tower and visit the Zeppelin Museum at the harbour, which will take you on a journey through the history and technology of airship travel..

Today is a highlight for the kids as they get to go to Ravensburger Spieleland. Experience adventure, fun and action for the entire family with over 70 attractions in eight theme worlds. After a fascinating day, you go back to Friedrichsahfen - conveniently on the Spieleland Bus (not included). You can of course go back by bike. It's a short but hilly route.

The next stage of your family cycling holiday on Lake Constance lies ahead of you. Cycle through orchards and charming little towns such as Langenargen, Wasserburg and Nonnenhorn to reach Lindau. The harbour of the Bavarian town is guarded by a six-metre-high lion. The winding alleyways and pretty houses in the old town centre are also particularly eye-catching.

Today the direction is up, up, up! The cableway takes you and your children up to the top of Pfänder mountain in just a few minutes. Enjoy breath-taking views of the lake and wander around the Alpine wildlife park, home to many different local animals. Once you've arrived in Bregenz by cableway, hop on to your bikes and cycle over the Swiss border. You soon reach your next destination, cycling through the nature reserve of the Rhine Delta.

The last section on your family cycling holiday on Lake Constance takes you mostly right along the side of the lake. This means that you have plenty of opportunities to hop in for a swim or stop for an ice cream. When you arrive in Konstanz, you should visit the Sea Life Centre (not included). Dive into this fascinating underwater world and discover sharks, turtles and even penguins.
