Come with us to the sunny island! On the cycling tour in Western Sicily, you will get to know the fabulous west coast of the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. You cycle mostly along the coast, passing beautiful white sandy beaches that are ideal for a break. Sicily also has a lot to offer culturally. In past eras, many peoples left their mark, which can still be seen today. Not only the magnificent Greek temples in Selinunte and a North African Kasbah in Mazara del Vallo will inspire you. Your cycling tour will take you past the salt city of Trapani and the region around Marsala, where countless windmills can be found. The mild climate ensures that you can still enjoy your cycling tour in Western Sicily when the weather in Germany is already getting colder and more uncomfortable.

Day 1: Individual arrival in Trapani

Your cycling tour starts in Trapani, a city in North-Western Sicily. The historic center with numerous squares and churches awaits you. Trapani is also known for the largest salt works in Sicily, which is well worth a visit.

Day 2: Trapani – Mozia – Marsala, approx. 50 km

Today you cycle in a relaxed manner on flat paths. Your gaze wanders again and again to the small salt hills and the numerous windmills. Take your time and take a motorboat to the small island of Mozia. There is a museum on the island with archaeological finds. Back again, you will reach Marsala after a few kilometers. Enjoy a glass of the special dessert wine for which the town is named.

Day 3: Marsala – Mazara del Vallo, approx. 30 km

A rather short stage awaits you on the third day of the cycling tour in Western Sicily. You will first have enough time to visit Marsala. Around the Piazza della Repubblica, you can visit numerous baroque buildings or taste the liqueur wine Marsala, which gives the port city its name. Today's destination is Mazara del Vallo, a small town with a fascinating mix of different cultures. The town center is home to an African kasbah and a baroque bishop's palace, among other things.

Day 4: Mazara del Vallo – Selinunte, approx. 40 km

Today's route first takes you inland from the coast. You cycle through gently undulating terrain and soon reach the Mediterranean at Selinunte between olive trees and flat vineyards. The extensive Greek temples, which are located not far from today's town center, are well worth seeing. Even though the temples were destroyed by earthquakes, the ruins give an idea of the importance the ancient city once had. Some of the temples have been rebuilt.

On the way to Selinunte

Day 5: Selinunte – Sambuca, approx. 40 km

Today's stage on your cycling tour in Western Sicily takes you through the interior of the country. You cycle through flat, cultivated terrain. Short hilly sections are followed by longer descents through wooded areas. Enjoy the beautiful landscape before you reach the small town of Sambuca. It is idyllically situated amidst vineyards and Lake Arancio. Discover the old town with its winding alleyways and historic churches.

Day 6: Sambuca – Corleone, approx. 45 km

Get on the saddle and cycle on quiet roads, sometimes flat, sometimes hilly, through the interior. You reach Corleone. The small town is primarily associated with the film The Godfather. From a former mafia town, Corleone has now blossomed into a tourist magnet. You will find numerous museums and baroque churches. You will certainly be surprised by the waterfall and the large, well-kept city park.

Day 7: Corleone – Monreale, approx. 65 km

Enjoy the unique landscape of Western Sicily once again today. Cycle leisurely along large cultivated areas and through green forests. From the hills, you have a breathtaking view over the valleys. When you reach the small village of Piana degli Albanesi, don't miss the chance to try cannolo, a typical Sicilian pastry. You will soon reach Monreale, the destination of your cycling tour in Western Sicily. The town is famous for its cathedral, the construction of which dates back to 831.
