The island archipelago of La Maddalena captivates with its green expanses, fragrant herbs and shallow, blue water. As soon as you cycle inland, you will experience a different side of Sardinia. Here, simple villages, wild mountain landscapes with large flocks of sheep and quiet inland roads with little traffic define the character of the island. You should definitely not miss out on this impressive cycling tour in north Sardinia!
The former fishing village of Cannigione is now known for its marina. There is a beautiful beach for swimming to the north of the village, which you can reach on foot after your arrival and check-in at the hotel. If you still have time, grab your bike and visit the hinterland. Here you will find peace and quiet between scrub forests and granite rocks.
On your first cycle tour you will discover the beautiful Costa Smeralda. You cycle into the hills of San Pantaleo. The small mountain village is nestled between jagged granite mountains. The small, flat houses in the old town are characteristic. You cross Porto Cervo, known for its international jet set, on your way back. The route takes you past windswept, bizarre granite rocks to Cannigione.
Today you will take the ferry to the La Maddalena nature park. You will reach the vibrant town of the same name via a beautiful panoramic road. The islands are considered the most beautiful that the Mediterranean has to offer. The sea is sometimes soft green, sometimes bright blue. The shallow waters are teeming with starfish, anemones and corals. On land, you will be enchanted by the many scents of wild herbs, laurel and myrtle.
Today's cycle tour takes you away from the sea and into the rocky hinterland. First you cross the former pastoral village of Arzachena, which now looks quite modern. Cycle on through the landscape lined with granite stone and cork oaks to Sant'Antonio de Gallura. Visit the historic town center before cycling along forests, meadows and fields to your destination for the day, Tempio Pausania or Nuchis.
Tempio Pausania is a charming little town on a high plateau in Gallura. Stroll through the narrow streets and historic town center before getting back on your bike. Today's route takes you through the Valle del Luna, the Valley of the Moon. Large granite boulders form bizarre rock formations. You will soon be able to smell the scent of the sea, as your destination for today, Castelsardo, is on the coast. Enjoy the beautiful sunset from the old town.
Castelsardo lies high above the sea on a rock. From here you cycle back inland. Enjoy the spectacular view of the Anglona with its many hills and pastureland. Cycle through the beautiful countryside to your overnight stay in Sassari. Let yourself be carried away by the big city flair of Sardinia's second largest city, where tradition and modernity are combined perfectly.
Today you start the last stage of your cycling tour in north Sardinia. You will cycle through the hinterland on beautiful, quiet paths to Alghero. Beautifully built on a small headland and surrounded by water on three sides, the town on the west coast is considered the most beautiful on the island.
