Enjoy a varied bike tour along the Etsch Cycle Path! Starting in Bolzano your tour takes you to Venice, the Pearl of the Adriatic. On your way to this town on the lagoon, you will pass through the idyllic countryside of Northern Italy and the vineyards of South Tyrol. Experience not only the wonderful flair of all these so well-known cities of Verona, Padua and Vicenza, but also Lake Garda, Italy‘s largest lake. One hundred years of culture accompany you on the Etsch cycle path to the Adriatic Coast. Venice, La Serenissima (the loudest) as the town is lovingly referred to by the locals has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. Drink a coffee on Piazza San Marco or take a trip on a gondola along the city‘s canals. There is plenty to see along the cycling tour from Bolzano to Venice!
Take time to discover the capital of Southern Tyrol with its impressive Cathedral of the Assumption. Stroll through the town's arcades, the most important streets in the Old Town which cut through it from East to West or visit one of the numerous museums. The Archaeological museum of Southern Tyrol is particularly recommended as it houses the famous natural human mummy of Oetzi, the iceman.
Today's route along the Adige Cycle Route leads you through extensive vineyards. Cycling though the typical Southern Tyrolean villages of Ora and Egna, you will reach Salurn. This is where the German-speaking region of Tyrol ends. You will then continue on towards Trento where you shouldn't miss the Old Town with its Romanesque Cathedral and the Baroque Neptune Fountain. Stroll along Via Belenzani with its beautiful old buildings.
Today you will cycle along the Adige, whose valley becomes increasingly narrow. Cycling along the old trading routes, you will come to Rovereto, which was once famous as a silk manufacturing town. The old town is perfect for strolling through with its numerous lane-ways and palaces. Afterwards you will cycle on towards Riva and board a boat which will transport you to your destination.
Accompanied by the Adige, you will cycle towards Verona, the capital town of the province of the same name. Stroll along the river through the picturesque old town of Verona or wonder in awe at the Roman amphitheatre Arena di Verona, which is famous for its operatic festivals. Numerous religious buildings such as the Cathedral Santa Maria Matricolare or the small church of Santa Maria Antica from the 8th century await your visit.
Today’s route starts off quite flat before reaching the Berici Hills. If today’s route is too long you also have the option of taking the train in San Bonifacio. The oldtTown of Vicenza is characterised by impressive buildings by the famous architect Andrea Palladio from the 16th century. The Teatro Olimpico, the first post-antique free-standing theatre building in Europe is also one of his works.
Cycling along streets lined with villas, you will leave Vicenza and arrive in one of the most famous bathing spa towns in Italy. Treat yourself and use the time for a long visit to the thermal baths or visit Padua, one of the oldest cities in Italy (which can be easily reached by bus). Here you should visit the famous Basilica of St. Anthony.
With the light breeze, which is common in this area, at your back you will cycle towards the sea. Your destination for the day is the mainland near Venice. From here there are excellent connections to the lagoon city, which has been on the UNESCO world heritage list since 1987. Explore the imposing St. Mark’s Cathedral and visit the Gothic Doge's Palace. A trip with a gondola is a very special way to explore the city.
