On the last day, look back on the sporty days full of experiences that you have had on our cycle tour around Amsterdam for sporty cyclists.
The small town of Harderwijk is the starting point of your sporty cycling tour around Amsterdam. Harderwijk was once a member of the Hanseatic League and a nationally important fishing and port city. Today you can still discover evidence of this time in many corners. Take a walk to the old harbor and the late Gothic Church of Our Lady. Or how about a short bike tour to the Veluwe? It is the largest contiguous forest in the Netherlands. If reserved, you will receive your rental bikes at the hotel.
Your sporty bike tour around Amsterdam today takes you through wide, flat landscapes. A stopover in Naarden is a good idea. The former garrison town has one of the most well-preserved fortresses in Europe. Most of the star-shaped fortress is freely accessible. After immersing yourself in the history of Dutch fortress building, cycle to Amsterdam. Take a walk along the canals and through the Vondelpark. Would you like to marvel at world-famous works of art? The Rijksmuseum with more than 8000 exhibits has you covered.
Leaving Amsterdam behind you cycle to the small town of Volendam. The former fishing village is known for its traditional costumes. Just a stone's throw away is Edam, famous worldwide for the round cheese of the same name. Today's destination, Enkhuizen, takes you to the western part of the IJsselmeer. Leave your bike and explore the town. The Drommedaris will catch your eye at the harbor. It is the most famous building in the city and once served as a defensive gate to protect the port.
The third stage of your sporty bike tour around Amsterdam begins with a ferry ride (not included) across the IJsselmeer. Not far from the landing stage, you will notice the Vrouwe van Stavoren . The statue is based on a famous Dutch legend of the Middle Ages about a merchant's widow. You'll find the details of the story inscribed right next to the statue. With the IJsselmeer in view, you cycle towards the water sports paradise of Lemmer. Through an area characterized by numerous moors and canals, you reach your destination for the day, Giethoorn.
Before you turn your back on Giethoorn, take a boat trip through the romantic canals of the small town. Marvel at its the beautiful houses and colorful gardens. Relax on the saddle and cross the Weerribben-Wieden National Park, the largest marshland landscape in Western Europe. It's worth taking a long break in the small town of Kampen. The fact that Kampen rose to fame through shipping and trade can still be seen today by its countless impressive buildings. You reach Harderwijk along the narrow Veluwemeer.
