A different kind of island hopping – the cycling tour through the archipelago at the gates of Stockholm offers a wonderful combination of city and nature. On this tour you can hop or cycle over the most beautiful islands in the archipelago. There are more than 24,000 of these small, rocky islands, which are very characteristic of Sweden. You will cycle from Sweden‘s capital through a colourful variety of land to some of the most beautiful archipelago islands. Visit the capital of the archipelago, Vaxholm, and also smaller islands such as Värmdö and Sandhamn. You will be enchanted by the rugged island world and the charm of the archipelago.
Your cycling tour through the archipelago begins in Stockholm. The multifaceted metropolis offers you a great combination of history, modernity and nature. Discover world-famous sights such as the Vasa Museum, the open-air museum Skansen and the lively old town Gamla stan with the Royal Palace.
The first stage of your cycling tour through the archipelago begins directly after breakfast in Stockholm. You cycle via Djurgården along the coast to Djursholm. This popular suburb of Stockholm impresses with its beautiful houses. The ferry takes you to the Bogesund nature reserve in just under 30 minutes. Visit Bogesund Castle here. Then take a short ferry ride to the capital of the archipelago: Vaxholm.
In the morning, take the ferry to the Island of Rindö. After a short discovery tour, you cycle on through small villages and breathtaking nature to the cross-island municipality of Värmdö. On the last few kilometers of the stage, you cycle over the impressive Djuröbron to your destination for the day. Enjoy the fabulous view of the archipelago in the evening.
Your day today starts in Stavsnäs with a 2-hour ferry ride that takes you to the popular island of Sandhamn. The island is a true summer paradise with magnificent villas, small alleyways and nice places to stop for a bite to eat. You have the option of exploring the small island by bike or spending the afternoon by the water. A ferry ride takes you back to Stavsnäs.
The next stage of your cycling tour through Stockholm's archipelago takes you via Fågelbrolandet to Gustavsberg. The Modern Art Museum Artipelag is very close by and always worth a visit. You cycle over the arched bridge over the Skurus and on to Saltsjöbaden. It's worth making a photo stop on the bridge. There are many beautiful bathing spots on the peninsula around Saltsjöbaden, which is why the town and the region are very popular with the people of Stockholm.
You cycle along beautiful coastal paths to Erstavik. You cycle through a nature reserve to Skogskyrkogården, an extensive cemetery that has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to its architecture, which blends harmoniously into the cultural landscape. Stockholm is now only a few kilometers away. Cycle via the Islands of Södermalm and Långholmen to the city center and your hotel.
