Founded by the Romans over 2000 years ago, their influence can still be felt in many corners of Trier today. The Porta Nigra, the Black Gate, is unmistakable. The city's landmark is the ideal starting point for a relaxed stroll through the many ancient and more modern buildings.

The Villa Rustica there is well worth a longer break. Built in the 2nd century, the Roman estate gradually developed into one of the largest manor houses in the area. Remains of a mosaic, reconstructed exterior facades and rooms still bear witness to the magnificent interior. At the end of the day, treat yourself to a glass of Riesling from the surrounding vineyards at your destination of Leiwen and get in the mood for the next stages.
Today you swap your bike for hiking boots.
