Serdecznie witamy – this is how you will be greeted on your cycle tour along the Vistula from Warsaw to the Baltic Sea. Take a journey through time and history along Poland's largest river. The Vistula meanders majestically through the country. Along its banks, you will come across towns worth seeing such as Toruń, Chelmno and Kwidzyn. Picturesque old towns, well-preserved castles and graceful town houses from different eras will inspire you. Let yourself be enchanted by Poland's unique, pristine nature. The course of the Vistula has hardly been regulated, so it runs – sometimes wild, sometimes calm – right across the country. Observe rare otters and numerous beavers on the banks and islands of the river. From time to time you will be accompanied by countless flocks of birds. The further north you cycle, the stronger the salty scent wafts around your nose. The Polish Baltic coast near Gdánsk fascinates with its long white sandy beaches and magnificent views over the blue sea.
This cycle tour along the Vistula is a partially guided tour. You will be accompanied by a driver with whom you will meet at fixed transfer times. You have both the freedom of an individual cycle tour in terms of cycling speed and break times and the security of a guided tour. Should you ever need help, there is always someone nearby.
After arriving for your cycle tour along the Vistula to the Baltic Sea, you can first relax at the hotel. At 5:15 p.m. you will meet your tour guide, who will take you on an interesting city tour of Warsaw. Discover historic buildings such as the Royal Castle and the modern Palace of Culture. At a height of 114 m, there is a viewing platform from which you have a wonderful view over the city. After the city tour, enjoy dinner in a cozy restaurant in the old town.
After a hearty breakfast, board the train that will take you to Sochaczew in around 1 hour. Continue by bike to Żelazowa Wola. Make sure to be there at noon in front of the house where Frederic Chopin was born to listen to a recital of the composer's works. Cycle through the Kampinos National Park, which is the green lung of Warsaw with its unique inland dunes. You will be impressed by the dunes, which are up to 30 meters high. In the afternoon, you will reach Wyszogród, from where a transfer bus will take you to Płock.
Your day begins with a bus transfer from Płock to Włocławek, where today's cycle tour along the Vistula begins. On the way, you cross the river by ferry (not included) in Nieszawa. You will soon reach Ciechocinek by bike. In what is probably Poland's most famous spa town, you have the opportunity to visit the mighty graduation towers, which were built to extract salt. The journey continues by transfer to Toruń. Take your time to visit the beautiful old town with its Gothic churches and Baroque warehouses. One of the city's figureheads is Nicolaus Copernicus, the famous astronomer who was born in Toruń.
Leave Toruń with one last view of the old town. Cycle through the beautiful countryside in the Vistula valley. The route runs quietly and leisurely on a newly built cycle path along a disused railroad embankment. Visit Bierzgłowski Castle, a Gothic crusader castle in Łubianka. In the afternoon you reach Ostromecko. An exciting tour of the Ostromecko Palace awaits you here.
After breakfast, cycle along the Vistula to Chełmno, a small town with countless sights. Don't waste any time and marvel at the churches, the Renaissance town hall and the almost completely preserved town walls. In the afternoon, continue to the nearby town of Grudziądz. From afar, you can see the mighty granaries, which bear witness to the town's former prosperity.
From Grudziądz you will be taken by bus to Kwidzyn, where today's cycling stage begins. You cycle through extensive forest and meadow areas along the Vistula. Treat yourself to a break on the banks and enjoy the beautiful view across the river. You soon reach Malbork at Nogat river, an estuary of the Vistula. Here you will find Marienburg Castle, the world's largest brick castle. Did you know that the huge complex was once the headquarters of the Teutonic Knights?
After breakfast, you can first visit the castle at your leisure. You enter the interior of the castle via a drawbridge and embark on an extraordinary walk through the Middle Ages along old cobblestone paths. You will then be taken on a short bus ride to Tczew. From here you cycle along the Motlawa. The small tributary of the Vistula flows leisurely. Life in the small villages seems just as leisurely. Let yourself be infected by the tranquillity in an area where time seems to have stood still. A salty scent will soon fill your nose. You have reached Gdańsk on the Baltic Sea, the destination of your cycle tour along the Vistula. Because there is so much to see, a one-hour guided stroll through the city is included. Afterwards, enjoy a late dinner in Gdańsk's old town.
