Your cycle tour around the Mecklenburg Lake District is characterized by the lush green of the plants and the crystal-clear blue of the water. The Müritz and Lake Plauer See, the small waterways and the moors, which seem enchanted, are populated by rare animal and plant species. You cycle along the long stretches of shoreline, along the German Avenue Road and through the Müritz National Park. In the picturesque towns and villages, you will find half-timbered houses, typical red brick buildings and a wide variety of ship locks.
Waren has been a designated health resort since the beginning of the 19th century. It is located right in the middle of the Mecklenburg Lake District. Visit In the Müritzeum, the House of 1000 Lakes. Here you'll learn more about life on, in and around the water. It is the ideal introduction to your cycle tour around the Mecklenburg Lake District.
Your first stage is all about the Müritz National Park. The extensive area appears almost deserted. Small ponds and large lakes lie like drops to the right and left of the path in the middle of mysterious moors. Impressive ospreys and sea eagles accompany you on your cycle tour to Neustrelitz.
Shortly after Neustrelitz, you reach the eastern part of the Müritz National Park. In Fürstenberg, the gate to the Mecklenburg Lake District, you cross the waterway to Berlin, where there is usually a lot of boat traffic. Your cycle tour finally takes you to Wesenberger Seenkreuz, where smaller and large lakes lie close together.
If you want to be royally spoiled on the third stage, be sure to take a break in Mirow. On the castle island, you will find the baroque castle, the Gothic church with the princely crypt and its former ice cellars. A restaurant has opened here where you can dine like a knight. After an extensive visit, continue your cycle tour to Röbel. Climb the church tower. You can enjoy a wonderful view above the Müritz from the top.
The regional cycle path Mecklenburgischer Seenradweg takes you towards Plau on the lake. At the southern tip of the lake, you can observe the 19 brown bears in the Bear Sanctuary Müritz. Take a hike through Tal der Eisvögel (valley of the kingfishers). Once you arrive in Plau, you should definitely pay a visit to the castle tower. The 3-metre-thick walls have defied all adversity for over 500 years and are just as impressive as its 11-metre-deep dungeon.
Experience pure nature on this varied cycle tour around the shores of Lake Plau. You cycle through beech forests and dry grassland, mostly along the water on natural paths. Alt-Schwerin is idyllically situated in the middle of this pristine natural landscape. The island town of Malchow was once only connected to the mainland by a simple wooden bridge. With a fresh breeze around your nose, enjoy a relaxing ride through fields and meadows, past idyllic villages and extensive stretches of forest to Waren.
