The Moselle region is synonymous with distinctive wine and forest landscapes: to the left and right of the river, slopes covered with vines rise up and the small towns are simply enchanting: Bernkastel-Kues, for example, with its colorful half-timbered houses. Not to mention Trier and the Porta Nigra, the Roman city gate dating back to 180 AD. The Saar rises in France, flows through Lorraine and Alsace until it joins the Moselle in Konz. At 235 kilometers, it is both the longest and the most water-rich tributary of the Moselle. You will discover all this on this trip by bike and boat on the Moselle and Saar and probably also sip one or the other glass of Moselle wine.
The starting point of the trip alternates between Koblenz and Saarburg. Available dates are shown in the booking form.
Unfortunately bookings can no longer be taken for this holiday for the 2024 season. Our Bike & Boat holidays are often booked out very early.
But don't give up! You're sure to find alternatives. And we're very happy to help you do so!

Show more Show lessThe famous city at the mouth of the Moselle into the Rhine offers cozy Rhenish city life. A must is the visit of the fortress Ehrenbreitstein with beautiful views over the countryside and the German Corner. A stroll through the old town leads to many other large and small sights. Embarkation begins at 4:00 pm.
By boat we go to Alken, from here the first time with the bike along the Moselle. A short but steep detour into a side valley leads to the famous Eltz Castle. Via Treis-Karden with the collegiate church known as the Moseldom, the route continues to Cochem, where the ship awaits you. On a mountain cone outside the city center stands clearly visible the Reichsburg, the landmark of Cochem.
From here, the Moselle winds its way in many meanders between the Eifel and Hundsrück. One of the most beautiful places is certainly Beilstein, which has already served as a backdrop for several films. The historic village is one of the best preserved on the Moselle. Passing the steepest vineyard in Europe, the Bremmer Calmont, you cycle to your destination Zell. This is known for the Zeller Schwarze Katz vineyard.
Also today the bike tour is quite leisurely. You will first cycle to the romantic town of Traben-Trarbach, the city of Art Nouveau on the Middle Moselle. Via Kröv with a famous wine site you cycle to Bernkastel-Kues, also an extremely worth seeing place with a stylish medieval market place.
You cycle in the valley of the Middle Moselle towards Piesport, a town also internationally known for its wines. If you wish, you can visit the largest Roman winepress ever found north of the Alps here. You will then drive through Neumagen-Dhron, the oldest wine village in Germany and the site of the Neumagen wine ship. Well fortified, you will continue to Mehring after lunch.
On your last section of the Moselle you will cycle through small villages like Schweich and Pfalzel and then Trier will come into view, a large city and ancient Roman capital with impressive buildings. Use the time after this short stage for an extensive stroll through the lively old town. The Porta Nigra and the amphitheater want to be discovered by you.
You leave the old Roman city of Trier again and follow the Moselle further upstream. In Wasserbillig you have already reached Luxembourg. The small town at the confluence of the Sûre and Moselle rivers is the lowest point in the Grand Duchy at 130 meters above sea level. On the Moselle, you now cycle a few kilometers downstream to Konz, where the Saar flows into the Moselle. On the Saar Cycle Route you will ride the last section of your journey by bike and boat along the Moselle to Saarburg, often called Little Venice.
