The bike trip through Switzerland takes you to the heart of Switzerland! The journey begins in Constance on Lake Constance. During a transfer to Interlaken in the Bernese Oberland, you can already get an idea of the beautiful mountain world and cultural landscape that will open up to you in the coming days. From Interlaken you cycle along Lake Thun. From Thun, you follow the course of the longest river in Switzerland. On your bike trip through Switzerland, you will cycle stage after stage to the federal city of Bern, bilingual Biel, baroque Solothurn and the water castle of Switzerland near Aarau. Not far from Waldshut-Tiengen, the Aare meets the Rhine, which you follow via the Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen and Stein am Rhein to Constance. Despite the almost gradient-free cycle paths along the river, a bike trip through Switzerland requires a certain level of fitness, as does cycling along the Rhine, where you can expect the odd incline.
Your bike trip through Switzerland begins in Constance on Lake Constance. Arrive early, because a discovery tour through the largest city on the lake is worthwhile. Stroll through the old town and Niederburg castle with its medieval houses and alleyways, enjoy the view of the lake and mountains from the cathedral tower and round off the day with a full-bodied wine from the sun-drenched vineyards of the region.
After breakfast, a transfer will take you to Interlaken in the heart of the Bernese Oberland. Situated between Lakes Brienz and Thun, the town has a history dating back to the 12th century. If you want to get up high, take the funicular to the Heimwehfluh. From the excursion mountain, including the viewing tower, you will get a first impression of the mountain scenery that will accompany you in the coming days.
The first stage of your bike trip through Switzerland cyclists takes you along the northern shore of Lake Thun. Enjoy the view of the sparkling lake before taking a break in Thun. First of all, the striking residential tower of the castle will catch your eye. The castle invites you to take a tour through 800 years of the town's history. Cycle along the River Aare to your destination for the day, Bern. The federal city of Switzerland is known for its characteristic arcades and the Zytglogge, a clock tower from the Middle Ages.
Follow the course of the Aare and Lake Wohlen, a reservoir on the Aare, to Lake Biel. The route continues along its banks to Biel. The city is one of the most important watchmaking towns in the world. Try the Bieler Bsetzisteine, a chocolate specialty, before continuing briskly on to Solothurn. The city is considered the most beautiful baroque city in Switzerland. The picturesque old town with its guild houses and statue fountains is particularly charming. The number 11 has a special significance for the city – in addition to 11 churches, 11 towers and 11 museums, St. Ursus Cathedral has 11 altars and 11 bells.
The longest stage of your bike trip through Switzerland lies ahead of you. You follow the meanders of the river in a sporty manner. You reach Aarau, the former capital of Switzerland. Aarau's landmark is the Upper Tower, which at 62 meters high is one of the best-preserved medieval towers in the country. It is also worth looking up – it is not without reason that Aarau is known as the city of beautiful gables. Continue to the water castle of Switzerland, where the rivers Aare, Reuss and Limmat unite in a generous river landscape. You meet the Rhine at Koblenz. The twin town of Waldshut-Tiengen is only a few kilometers away.
Today you will get to know the High Rhine. Shortly before the gates of Schaffhausen, you will reach the Rhine Falls. With a height of 23 meters and a width of 150 meters, it is one of the largest waterfalls in Europe. Your destination for the day, Schaffhausen, is known as the city of oriels. 171 oriels adorn the houses in the medieval old town. Head up to the Munot fortress, the town's landmark. In the evening, the Munotglöggli has been ringing out punctually at 9 p.m. since 1589.
Following the course of the Rhine, you will reach Stein am Rhein. The richly decorated facades in the old town and Hohenklingen Castle, which towers above the town, are particularly worth seeing. On we go! Cycle back to Constance along the Swiss bank of the Rhine. Treat yourself to a refreshing beer in one of the beer gardens on the Rhine or by the lake and look back on a successful cycle tour.
