Take the Rasende Roland to Putbus. Back on the mainland, get to know the Hanseatic and university town of Greifswald and Wolgast, known for its Blue Wonder. Just a stone's throw away, you have already reached Usedom. The island, known for its imperial spas and piers, awaits you with seemingly endless sandy beaches, sophisticated villas and even more healthy, salty air. Cycle across the island to the natural paradise of the Szczecin Lagoon. At the end of our bike tour on Rügen and Usedom, you will reach your destination of Ueckermünde.
Your bike tour on Rügen and Usedom begins in the historic Hanseatic city of Stralsund, renowned as the gateway to Rügen. Founded by the Slavs, the city flourished under Westphalian rule, resulting in a rich architectural heritage.
Stroll through the old town, where you'll find an impressive collection of Brick Gothic buildings. Be sure to visit the magnificent St. Nikolai Church and the Ozeaneum, an engaging aquarium that immerses you in the wonders of the sea and its diverse inhabitants. Enjoy the blend of history and maritime exploration that Stralsund has to offer!
Today, you will discover the beautiful island of Rügen. Begin your journey with a train ride (included) from Stralsund to Bergen. Once in Bergen, visit the Ernst Moritz Arndt Tower, situated atop the 91-meter-high Rugard hill on the town’s outskirts. Here, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the expansive Rügen landscape.
After taking in the sights, make your way to the Baltic Sea coast. Upon arriving in Göhren, head to the beach and feel the fine sand beneath your feet. As the day winds down, take a leisurely evening stroll along the pier, allowing the refreshing Baltic Sea breeze to envelop you.
Today, you will explore the diverse landscape of the Mönchgut peninsula. Enjoy a leisurely day at the beach, with the opportunity for swimming between Thiessow and Lobbe. Alternatively, consider a short hike through the Zicker Mountains. While these peaks reach a modest height of only 66 meters, they offer beautiful trails that allow for an immersive exploration of the peninsula.
For a deeper understanding of the region's history, visit the Mönchguter Heimatmuseum in Göhren, where you can learn about the rich heritage of the peninsula. Enjoy your day of relaxation and discovery!
At the beginning of today’s stage of your bike tour on Rügen and Usedom, prepare for a unique experience aboard the historic steam-powered train, Rasender Roland. Dating back to the 19th century, this charming train ride will transport you to Putbus, the youngest town on Rügen, renowned for its classicist architecture.
From Putbus, cycle the short distance to Glewitz. Upon your arrival, you have the option to take the ferry (not included) to Stahlbrode. Once across, continue your journey by bike until you reach your final destination for the day: the vibrant university town of Greifswald.
Today, you will cycle along the stunning Baltic Sea coastal path to Wolgast, the gateway to Usedom Island. Along the way, take a refreshing break to swim in the long sandy beaches of Lubmin.
After your rejuvenating stop, continue on to Wolgast, where you can explore the charming old town, rich in historical monuments. Don’t miss the opportunity to ascend the tower of St. Peter's Church, which offers breathtaking views of the town and its surroundings.
As you conclude your journey, marvel at the "Blue Wonder" of the Peene River. This impressive bascule bridge connects the mainland to Usedom Island, enhancing the scenic beauty of your adventure.
Experience a serene cycling journey across the Peene Bridge to the picturesque island of Usedom. Begin your adventure by cycling along the forested coastline to the charming Baltic seaside resort of Zinnowitz, where you can indulge in a refreshing swim in the inviting waters of the Baltic Sea.
Continuing your ride, you'll reach Heringsdorf, renowned as one of Usedom's elegant imperial resorts. This sophisticated destination features Germany's longest pier, extending 508 meters into the sea. A short distance inland, discover the quaint estate village of Mellenthin, home to a romantic castle that adds to the island's charm.
You will spend the night in either Heringsdorf or Mellenthin, ensuring a memorable experience on this enchanting island.
Today's bike tour takes you through the southwestern part of Usedom at a leisurely pace, featuring only a few gentle climbs. Begin your journey in the town of Usedom, which gave the island its name, and take time to wander through its charming streets. Be sure to stop at the Anklamer Tor, where you can visit the local history museum and admire the impressive Marienkirche.
Next, board the ferry to Kamp in Karnin. During the short crossing, you’ll catch sight of the Karnin lift bridge, a striking remnant of a former railroad bridge. Shortly after disembarking, you’ll arrive at your destination for the day, Ueckermünde, located near the shore of the Szczecin Lagoon.
