The Bike tour from Krimml to Passau is designed for enthusiastic and experienced cyclists who want to focus on longer stages and don't want to miss out on the fantastic atmosphere of the Tauern mountains and the Alpine foothills. But it's not just the scenery that makes this cycle tour along the Salzach, Saalach and Inn rivers so unique. It is also the many wonderful towns such as Bad Reichenhall, Salzburg or Schärding, the mighty monasteries, the longest castle in the world, the narrow gorges and the impressive high mountain reservoirs that make it so wonderfully varied. The Krimml waterfalls right at the start are a magnificent prelude. There is also a good dose of nature on offer during the tour. In the Europareservat Unterer Inn thousands of birds have set up their nesting grounds. Salzburg and Passau offer a contrasting cultural program, which need not be advertised as worthwhile places to visit. Their reputation as tourist magnets has long preceded them.
Welcome to the Hohe Tauern National Park vacation region. The mountain ranges with their snow-capped three-thousand-metre peaks such as the Großvenediger, Großglockner and Kitzsteinhorn will immediately cast a spell over you. Just like the famous Krimml Waterfalls, which offer a breathtaking natural spectacle with a total drop height of 380 meters and over three cascades. Stretch your legs on the four-kilometre Waterfall Trail, which leads from the lowest to the highest falls, before getting on the saddle for your Bike tour from Krimml to Passau the next day. Booked rental bikes are available for you at the hotel.
You face the longest stage of the Bike tour from Krimml to Passau right at the start. You cycle through the magical scenery of the Hohe Tauern National Park and the Oberpinzgau region to Kaprun. Here you can visit the high mountain reservoirs. The dam walls are over 100 meters high and hold 160 million cubic meters of water. A refreshing dip in Lake Zell would of course also be a wonderful way to pass the time. The journey continues across beautiful green meadows, through cozy villages and past the pilgrimage church of Maria Alm to Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer.
Next destination: Salzburg! This motivates you for the next 75 kilometers, which will take you through the tranquil Pinzgauer Saalachtal. Take time to visit the breathtaking natural spectacles such as the Seisenbergklamm, the Lamprechtshöhle and the Vorderkaserklamm. It's easy to spend time in the Alpine town of Bad Reichenhall in Berchtesgadener Land. Take a walk through the royal spa gardens, to Marzoll Castle or count the 70 fountains in this typically Bavarian small town. Salzburg is not far away. The city, which is so much more than the city of Mozart, will delight you with its cultural offerings.
You leave the world of the Alps behind you and pedal into the Alpine foothills. The first highlight is the bend in the Salzach river near Oberndorf. The mighty castle complex near Burghausen towers high above the small town's old town, which is well worth seeing. Burghausen Castle has been listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest castle in the world. You come to the mouth of the Inn into the Salzach, from here begins the Europareservat Unterer Inn, which is a breeding ground for many thousands of birds between wide dammed water areas and small alluvial islands. The 15th-century pilgrimage church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Simbach, where you spend the night, is pretty to look at.
The last stage of the Bike tour from Krimml to Passau awaits. You can look forward to mighty monasteries and pretty towns along the Inn, which will put you in a good mood with their colorful, stucco-decorated town houses. Schärding in particular, with its Silberzeile, which shines with its colorful facades in pastel shades, is a prime example. The color of the house facades goes back to the medieval guild colors. A bakery was once blue, a butcher red, innkeepers yellow and green. It is not far along the Inn and you have reached Passau. Take a stroll through the baroque old town or visit the world's largest cathedral organ in St. Stephen's.
Take a final stroll through the Three Rivers town or a round trip on the rivers, which is very worthwhile. Your Bike tour from Krimml to Passau has now come to an end. We are happy to extend your stay in Passau. Otherwise you can start your individual return journey or use the pre-booked return transfer with the cycle bus.
