The Ionian island is home to countless enchanting sandy and pebble beaches, idyllic bays, mysterious caves and steep cliffs. You will spend the night in three different places and explore the island by pedal. From Mousata, you will discover the hilly landscape of the south. From the idyllic bay of Agia Efimia to Fiscardo, you will experience the rugged, barren north. You will spend the last night in Argostoli, the lively capital of Kefalonia. Enjoy the authentic atmosphere of the pretty villages and drink a glass of the local Robola wine. You cycle uphill and downhill through vineyards and olive and cypress groves. The bike tour on Kefalonia offers anyone who likes to be active on vacation a special mix of sport, culture, history and breathtaking nature.
Your trip starts at the airport or bus station. Our transfer will take you to your hotel in Mousata. Settle into your room, relax in your hotel pool or, if your bikes are already available for the trip, you can go on your first bike tour. The village lies between the Ionian Sea and Mount Enos. At an altitude of 1,628 meters, it is one of the highest mountains on Kefalonia. Dense pine and fir forests characterize the landscape around the mountain.
After breakfast, you cycle to Argostoli, the island's capital. On your way, you will pass typical Greek villages such as Keramies, Metaxata and Kourkourmetata. You cycle on quiet, rural roads to the town. The landscape is characterized by olive, cypress and pine groves. Early risers have the opportunity to spot sea turtles near the fishing boats in the harbour. As in all the larger towns on the island, Argostoli also has a wide range of cultural attractions, such as a theater, an archaeological museum and a philharmonic orchestra. From Argostoli you drive up a 200 meter high mountain ridge. You have a wonderful view of the southern coast and the surrounding area.
The route to Poros is a wonderful start to the stage and takes you to the east of the island. You cycle over a few climbs on a panoramic road with a breathtaking view of the Ionian Sea. From the village of Pastra, you cycle downhill to the coast and via an extra loop to the seaside resort of Skala. Here you can relax on the sandy beach and visit the Roman villa of Skala. Here you will find mosaics depicting a sacrificial scene and an allegory of envy. The shorter route takes you directly to Katelios. This picturesque fishing village is home to the sea turtle information center, which you can visit. From Katelios, you cycle back to Mousata.
In the direction of Argostoli, you follow the picturesque route along the bay of Argostoli. You cycle to the famous viewpoint of Myrtos Beach. Stroll along the long sand and pebble beach with its crystal-clear water. On your bike tour on Kefalonia, you will pass the village where the movie Captain Corelli's Mandolin was shot. After Myrtos Beach, you cross the island and pass numerous traditional villages. In Agis Efimia, an idyllic fishing village on the east coast of Kefalonia, you check into your hotel for the next few nights.
On your bike tour on Kefalonia, you will discover the surroundings of Agia Efimia. Cycle past Karavolomilos Bay. Visit the stalactite cave with the underground Melissani Lake. Paddle out onto the sky-blue lake in a small boat and admire the fascinating play of light. Visit the authentic villages of Poulata or Chaliotata, drink a Greek coffee and enjoy the idyllic setting. On the way to Sami, cycle past the Drogarati Cave, the largest cave on Kefalonia. You cycle back to Agia Eflimia along Karavolomilos Bay.
Your bike tour on Kefalonia takes you through wooded and blooming landscapes to Fiscardo. You cycle along the coastal road with a magnificent view of the cliff faces. The beautiful fishing village is located on the northern tip of the island and is surrounded by a cypress grove. Numerous tavernas and cafés line the village promenade. Fiscardo will enchant you with its traditional pastel-colored houses, as it survived the earthquake in 1953. Visit the ruins of the Norman church to the north of the harbor bay. Dive into the crystal-clear, turquoise water, go snorkeling or lie down on the beach of Foki Bay and enjoy the peace and quiet.
On your last stage of the bike tour on Kefalonia, you cycle along the coast to Karavomilos. You cycle through olive groves and vineyards to the villages of Poulata and Chaliotata. A challenging climb up to Mount Aenos awaits you. You cycle on to the Omala Valley, the most important wine-producing area on the island. This is where the internationally renowned Robola wine is produced. Next to the winery is the monastery of Agios Gerasimos. From Omala, you cycle downhill to Argostoli, past the Byzantine fortress of St. George.
