British lifestyle combined with French savoir vivre: experience this on a bike tour of the Channel Islands. Get to know three different islands in one week. On Guernsey, you will discover the charming island capital of St. Peter Port. You cycle along long, white sandy beaches and over gently undulating meadows and fields. You will pass beautiful gardens with colorful flowers and historical relics such as watchtowers and chapels. The largest Channel Island, Jersey, impresses with its diversity. Cliffs, dunes, medieval castles and magnificent gardens await you on your cycle tours. The small island pearl of Sark is visited on foot. You too will be amazed by the unspoiled nature of the island. There are neither paved roads nor cars. No matter where you are on your bike tour on the Channel Islands, you are always very close to the sea and can feel the wind and salt on your skin.
On arrival in Guernsey, you will first check into your hotel in St. Peter Port. You will then get to know the island's capital a little. In addition to the hilly old town center, the waterfront promenade is also worth seeing. If you arrived by ferry, you will certainly have noticed Castle Cornet. The 800-year-old castle off the coast has always guarded the harbour and is definitely worth exploring.
Your first bike tour on the Channel Islands takes you into the island's interior. You cycle along quiet paths across gently undulating meadows and fields. In Les Vauxbelets, you will visit the Little Chapel, one of the island's most popular landmarks and certainly worth a souvenir photo. You have reached the sea in Rocquaine Bay. At low tide, you can walk across to Lihou Island. Cycle back to St. Peter Port along the south coast, always looking out to sea.
Leave the bikes behind and take the ferry to the small island of Sark. Enjoy the journey back in time. There are no cars on the island and no street lighting. Discover the small rocky island on foot, which is no problem with an area of 5.5 km². Small wooded areas and lush meadows in the interior and the rugged rocky coastline with sand and shingle bays can also be wonderfully explored by horse-drawn carriage.
Today you will get to know the north coast of Guernsey on your bike tour of the Channel Islands. First you cycle past the Saumarez Park gardens, which are well worth seeing. Then on to Cobo and Saline Bay. The long sandy beaches are among the most beautiful on the island. Even further north are the imposing coastal watchtowers such as the Rousse Tower and a well-preserved burial site from the 2nd millennium BC. You cycle back to St. Peter Port along the coast via Bordeaux.
After getting to know the island of Guernsey over the last few days, you first take the ferry to the largest Channel Island today. Jersey's capital St. Helier is located in the south of the island on a long bay. On a tidal island near the capital is Elizabeth Castle, which is well worth a visit. At low tide you can reach the castle on foot, at high tide an amphibious vehicle will take you dry to the island.
Bike along the long sandy beaches to the picturesque harbour town of St. Aubin. Cycle along a former railroad line to the extreme south-western tip of the island. Here, the snow-white lighthouse sits enthroned on a tidal island and defies the storm and waves of the Atlantic. Your bike tour on the Channel Islands takes you north along the shallow St. Ouen's Bay. After a short stop in the small harbor of Grève de Lecq Bay, you cycle back to Saint Helier.
On the last bike tour on the Channel Islands, you explore the east of Jersey. The pleasantly flat route takes you to picturesque Gorey. This is a great place to stay. The relaxed fishing town with its pastel-colored houses and beautiful harbor is perfect for a longer break. Take a stroll to Mont Orgueil Castle, which towers majestically over the town. Or enjoy freshly caught fish in a restaurant with a view of the glittering sea. Refreshed, you cycle back to St. Helier.
After breakfast, your exciting bike tour on the Channel Islands is unfortunately already over and you set off on your journey home.
