You will meet some wine taverns and passionate winegrowers along the way. After passing the beautifully situated villages of Riquewihr and Barr, you reach stylish Obernai. This walled town is the legendary birthplace of Saint Odilia, the patron saint of Alsace. In the market square with the chapel tower, you will find yourself in the middle of the architectural heritage from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
Leaving the beautiful vineyards behind, you cycle through the lovely Alsatian countryside and follow the river Bruche from Molsheim. You will reach the Alsatian capital Strasbourg with its outstanding cathedral. Let yourself be infected by the dynamism of the capital of Europe on the Place Kléber. The charming district of La Petite France with the so-called tanners' quarter is a must-see!
From Strasbourg you cross the Rhine and cycle via Kehl through the Baden region. You reach Ettenheim on the Upper Rhine. Situated in the midst of a wonderful vineyard landscape, the historic townscape with baroque town houses is wonderfully complemented by medieval half-timbered houses. You will spend the night in Ettenheim or in the district of Münchweier.
You cycle through small villages on slightly hilly cycle paths back to the sunny city of Freiburg. Enjoy the view of the vineyards of the Kaiserstuhl and the foothills of the Black Forest. Stroll through the historic old town, treat yourself to a delicious wine from the Markgräfler Land or hop on the Schlossbergbahn in the city garden, which will take you up the Schlossberg - great views guaranteed!
