Past the Tuniberg and the Kaiserstuhl mountains, you cycle towards the beautiful town of Breisach. Here you'll encounter the towers of St. Stephen's Minster. Cross the Rhine river and continue on your way past the French boarder via Neuf-Brisach and Sundhoffen you will reach the charming town of Colmar. Here you'll find the Unterlinden Museum with the famous Isenheim Altarpiece by Matthias Grünewald. Old, well-preserved half-timbered houses and bridges decorated with flowers add to the dreamy atmosphere of the Petite Venise district.
The Alsace Wine Route is today's focus. You will pass numerous vineyards, wine taverns and some passionate wine producers. The picturesque small village all feature the typical Alsatian half-timbered houses. After passing the beautifully situated villages of Riquewihr and Barr, you reach will reach Obernai. This walled town is the legendary birthplace of Saint Odilia, the patron saint of Alsace. Standing in its market square with its chapel tower you are right at the center of the region's architectural heritage reaching back to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance era.
You'll have to leaving the vineyards as you cycle through the lovely Alsatian countryside following the river Bruche from Molsheim. Today's destination is the Alsatian capital Strasbourg and its outstanding cathedral. Let yourself be infected by the dynamism of the capital of Europe on the Place Kléber. The charming district of La Petite France and the so-called tanners' quarter is a definite must-see!
From Strasbourg onwards you cross the Rhine to cycle via Kehl through the Baden region. You reach Ettenheim on the Upper Rhine. The town is surrounded by vineyards and boasts baroque town houses as well as medieval half-timbered houses. Enjoy your time as you will spend the night in Ettenheim or in the nearby district of Münchweier.
Today's bike path is sometimes hilly. You will pass several small villages on your way to the sunny city of Freiburg. Enjoy the view of the vineyards of the Kaiserstuhl and the foothills of the Black Forest. Take a stroll through the historic old town and treat yourself to a delicious wine from the Markgräfler Land. Alternatively hop on the Schlossbergbahn in the city garden it will take you up the Schlossberg hill- the view is a treat!
