On a trip by bike and boat on the Seine, you will cycle through the heart of France in a relaxed manner. Your floating hotel – the MS Fleur – is always a step ahead. You start your journey in Paris, the City of Light. Experience the vibrancy of the Seine metropolis on an extensive walk and discover a variety of sights before heading southeast on the Seine by boat. The first stop on the journey by bike and boat on the Seine is Melun, famous for its tasty Brie. The route continues through the beautiful forest of Fontainebleau to one of the most famous castles in France, the imposing Château de Fontainebleau. Not far from Moret-sur-Loing, the Seine meets the River Loing, which will accompany you again and again over the next few stages. After cycling through the old towns of Nemours, Ferrières-en-Gâtinais and Château-Landon, you reach your destination of Montargis.
Relaxation is the order of the day on this trip by bike and boat on the Seine. As you cycle on mostly flat cycle paths, the trip is suitable for anyone who would like to enjoy the comforts of a river boat and the natural and cultural landscape of France. The tour can be either guided or individually cycled, each day anew.
The starting point alternates between Paris and Montargis. Available dates are shown in the booking form. Please note that the overnight locations of the two routes differ slightly.
Your journey by bike and boat on the Seine begins in beautiful Paris. Embarkation on the MS Fleur takes place not far from Notre Dame at around 1.00 pm. After you have been welcomed by the ship's crew, the ship will take you along the Seine to Évry, where you will spend the night. We recommend arriving in Paris a few days early. This will give you enough time to get to know the French capital in all its facets.
After breakfast, get on your bike and set off on the first cycling stage of your journey by bike and boat along the Seine. From the Évry lock, you cycle to your first stage destination, Melun. The town is famous for the production of Brie de Melun, a soft cheese made from raw or pasteurized cow's milk. Just outside the town is the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, a magnificent 17th century castle whose interior and impressive dome can be visited. Back on the ship, you can take part in a city tour after dinner.
Today, part of the stage takes you through the forest of Fontainebleau, an extensive wooded area in the center of which lies the small town that gives it its name. The castle there is one of the most magnificent in France - the outstanding interior is particularly worth a visit. The MS Fleur is already waiting for you in Moret-sur-Loing. During a stroll through the alleyways, you will discover the remains of the 14th century fortifications and the Pont de Moret, which served as a motif for the Impressionist painter Alfred Sisley on several occasions.
The river Loing is your constant companion today. After visiting the town hall museum in Bourron-Marlotte and passing Grez-sur-Loing, known for its artists' colony, you cycle on to Nemours in a relaxed manner. In your stage destination, both the Château de Nemours, which now houses a museum, and the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church are well worth a visit. A walk along the small canals in the town center follows the course of the former fortifications.
After breakfast on the boat, you cycle through wooded surroundings to Égreville. One of the highlights of the small municipality is the Jardin-musée départemental Bourdelle, a garden that has been showcasing bronze sculptures by French sculptor Antoine Bourdelle since the 1960s. Continue to Néronville, where you will spend the night in the rural surroundings of the Loing.
Today's bike and boat tour along the Seine first takes you to Château-Landon. In this pretty little town, it is worth visiting the former Saint-Séverin Abbey and the historic wash houses, which can still be seen today on the Loing. Continue to Ferrières-en-Gâtinais. Famous for its saffron production since the 13th century, the town has a very well-preserved town center. Your destination of Montargis is just a few kilometers away.
You start your last cycle tour on this trip with an excursion to the surroundings of Montargis. The route takes you to Château-Renard. You will visit the beekeeping museum Musée vivant de l'apiculture and take part in a honey tasting. You will also visit the ruins of a 10th century castle. Cycle back to Montargis along the River Ouanne. As an exception, dinner is not served on board today. The tour guide will be happy to recommend one of the local restaurants.
