Welcome to a journey by bike and boat through Limburg and along the Meuse!
The Belgian-Dutch region of Limburg offers you a cross-border travel experience. During the trip by bike and boat through Limburg, you will be on a well-developed network of bike paths and will be enchanted again and again by the landscapes and the clear waters of the Meuse. You start the round trip with bike and ship through Limburg and along the Meuse in Kanne near Maastricht and erradeln itself almost without climbing historical villages and magnificent cities, castles, flat river valleys, heath areas, meadows and forests.
Your floating hotel, the MS Miró, receives you daily after your bike tours - with comfort and hospitality. Leave your bike at home with confidence, because the rental for the e-bike is already included in the tour price.
Your round trip by bike and boat through Limburg and along the Meuse begins just a stone's throw from Maastricht in the Belgian village of Kanne. After embarking on the MS Miró at 12.00 noon, it's time to set off as the ship takes you to Liège. Explore the charming old town and try the famous Belgian waffles. If you have a longer journey or would like to get to know Maastricht better, ideally you should arrive a day earlier.
After breakfast on the ship, you have the opportunity to visit the famous Sunday market La Batte on land. It is the largest and oldest market in Belgium. Off you go on your bike! You cycle along the Meuse and through the beautiful Voer valley to the landing stage in Kanne. After enjoying a coffee on the boat, you can spend the rest of the day as you wish. We recommend a visit to the Marl caves near Kanne. Learn more about the origin of the rock layer and the formation of the caves underground.
In the morning, during breakfast, your ship departs from Kanne. On land in Lanaken, today's stage of your tour by bike and boat through Limburg and along the Meuse is a brisk bike ride. Not far from Lanaken are the ruins of the medieval Pietersheim Castle. The ring-shaped ramparts and the gate tower have been preserved from the 12th-century complex. Right next door is a public park with a castle that now serves as a hotel. You cycle on to your stage destination of Maasmechelen. The MS Miró takes you to the pretty little town of Bree.
After breakfast and the daily tour briefing, you cycle to the Hoge Kempen National Park. Pure nature awaits you here. Moorland landscapes and rare animal species are at home in the greenest part of Flanders. There are numerous places to stop for refreshments along the way, such as the old Trappist Achel Abbey with its monastery brewery. Various suggestions are available on board for shorter day trips. In the afternoon, continue by boat to the small Dutch town of Thorn.
Today you cycle along the Meuse and explore the region around the Limburg lakes. At the small town of Masseik, you cross the border from Belgium into the Netherlands. The route continues to Stevensweert. The town lies on an island in the Meuse and once served as a fortified town - still recognizable today by its fortifications. Visit the Hompesche Molen, the highest windmill in the province of Limburg, before returning to Thorn, known as the White City. In the evening, your ship will take you to Born.
The last stage of your tour by bike and boat through Limburg and along the Meuse begins in Born on the Juliana Canal. The canal was built in the 1930s and runs almost parallel to the Meuse. You cycle through apple orchards to the beautiful castle in Elsloo and from there back to Kanne. In the evening, take the water cab to Maastricht. There you have the opportunity to discover many historical monuments and architectural highlights. After returning to the MS Miró, you can look back on an eventful journey.
